This role is focused on the administration, maintenance, and operational support of Creighton Universityâs Cisco-based network environment. The Network Administrator is responsible for ensuring the ongoing reliability, security, performance, and availability of campus-wide network services that support academic instruction, research activities, healthcare-related programs, and administrative operations. Serving as the primary operational authority for network services, the Network Administrator ensures systems are properly configured, continuously monitored, accurately documented, and consistently maintained in accordance with institutional standards, regulatory requirements, and service expectations. The position works closely with infrastructure, information security, and client-facing IT teams and plays a critical role in sustaining the stable, secure operation of mission‑critical network services across the University. This role provides supervision which includes hiring, evaluating performance, assigning work, providing guidance and overall ensuring team productivity and policy adherence.
Essential Functions Enterprise Network Administration
Administer and support wired and wireless network infrastructure, including switches, routers, wireless controllers, firewalls, VPN platforms, and related services.
Perform configuration management, firmware/software updates, patching, and lifecycle maintenance for network systems.
Maintain network performance, availability, and fault tolerance through proactive monitoring and operational tuning.
Operations, Monitoring & Incident Response
Monitor network health, capacity, and utilization using enterprise monitoring and logging tools.
Participate in on‑call rotation and respond to after‑hours incidents impacting critical university services.
Contribute to root cause analysis and incident reports, corrective actions, and service improvements.
Service Delivery & Collaboration
Collaborate with systems, cloud, identity, and endpoint teams to support integrated service delivery.
Support academic and administrative technology initiatives by ensuring network readiness and operational support.
Coordinate with vendors and service providers for support cases, maintenance activities, and hardware replacements.
Provide technical guidance and operational support.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelorâs degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field or equivalent professional experience.
5+ years of experience administering enterprise network environments.
Hands‑on experience administering:
Layer 2/Layer 3 switching and routing
Enterprise wireless networks
Firewalls and VPN platforms
Strong operational understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing protocols, and network security fundamentals.
Experience working within formal IT change management and incident response processes.
Demonstrated ability to support mission‑critical systems in a 24Ã7 operational environment.
