As a Device Software Development Engineer on the Amazon Leo for Government (ALG) team, you will design and develop embedded software for Amazon Leo's satellite and ground systems. You’ll work on fault‑tolerant, real‑time platforms, collaborating closely with hardware, systems, and product teams to deliver secure, reliable, and high‑performance solutions. This is a unique opportunity to shape the next generation of space‑based communication systems with minimal legacy constraints. Your work will directly support critical government initiatives, enabling secure and high‑performance communication systems for U.S. and allied missions. This role can be based in Northridge, CA, Arlington, VA, or Redmond, WA, with U.S. relocation benefits. Onsite work is required 5 days a week. Responsibilities
Design, develop, and optimize embedded software for Amazon Leo's satellite and ground terminal systems, focusing on fault‑tolerant, real‑time platforms. Leverage modern application frameworks for Embedded Linux and RTOS platforms to develop scalable, modular, and high‑performance software. Implement and integrate software for data processing, device control, and networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP). Debug and resolve complex hardware‑software integration issues using tools like logic analyzers and oscilloscopes. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure seamless hardware‑software interaction and system reliability. Mentor junior engineers, conduct design reviews, and uphold high software quality standards. Basic Qualifications
2+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience 2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems 1+ year of software development engineer or related occupational experience 1+ year of designing and developing large‑scale, multi‑tiered, multi‑threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using C#, C++, Java, or Perl Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field Preferred Qualifications
3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent Export Control:
This position requires that the candidate selected be a U.S. Citizen in order to comply with U.S. government‑imposed requirements related to the nature of the work and/or where it will be performed. A day in the life: You will design and implement embedded software used in Amazon Leo products. You will work in a collaborative environment with teams inside and outside of Amazon, crafting your software from requirements, designs, code, test, to product deployment. Amazon Leo for Government (ALG) is a multidisciplinary team developing targeted and scalable solutions for custom satellite and ground applications. ALG Device Software focuses on embedded software solutions for custom products supporting U.S. and allied government customers. We collaborate closely with hardware and systems teams to deliver secure, high‑performance solutions for mission‑critical applications. Base salary range: 143,700.00 – 194,400.00 USD annually. Your package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
