We are seeking an exceptional Assistant Director who is passionate about supporting employees, building strong workplace culture, and helping teams thrive.
This is not a traditional childcare management position. While operational leadership is important, our highest priority is finding a leader with strong experience in Human Resources, employee relations, staff coaching, employee engagement, conflict resolution, and culture development.

Position Summary
The Assistant Director serves as a key leader within the center and plays a vital role in employee support, team development, center operations, and family relationships.
This position is responsible for helping create a workplace where employees feel valued, engaged, supported, and successful while ensuring the center operates efficiently and maintains the highest standards of quality and compliance.
The successful candidate will be a strong relationship-builder who can coach employees, navigate challenging situations with professionalism and empathy, and help foster a positive, high-performing culture.
Essential Responsibilities
Human Resources & Employee Relations
- Support employees through workplace challenges, professional development, and daily successes
- Foster employee engagement, morale, and retention
- Build positive relationships with team members across all departments
- Assist with recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and staff retention efforts
- Help employees navigate workplace stress and challenges effectively
- Facilitate coaching conversations and performance improvement discussions
- Support conflict resolution and employee relations initiatives
- Champion employee well-being and workplace culture
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and supervise daily center operations
- Coach, mentor, and develop teaching staff
- Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback
- Facilitate staff development and training opportunities
- Promote accountability, teamwork, and professional excellence
- Support center-wide goals related to quality, enrollment, and performance
Family & Community Relationships
- Build strong, professional relationships with families
- Communicate HHCDC's philosophy, programs, and expectations effectively
- Serve as a trusted problem solver for parents and staff
- Maintain a welcoming, positive environment for children and families
Operations & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with state licensing regulations and HHCDC policies
- Maintain required administrative records and documentation
- Support scheduling, staffing, and operational efficiency
- Assist with continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Identify challenges and implement effective solutions
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 3 years of leadership, management, or supervisory experience
- Strong experience supporting, coaching, and developing employees
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build trust and maintain positive professional relationships
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with technology and administrative systems
- Ability to pass all required background checks
- CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain

- Childcare, education, nonprofit, healthcare, or human services leadership experience
