Job Summary Mobile Trailer Technician II – Dedicated on‑site position to perform certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, and light repairs on trailers and related equipment.
Duties
Perform preventive maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on trailers and equipment with minimal supervision.
Document all work on Repair Orders (RO) using the company iOS device and TRAIT application, including uploading pictures and parts used.
Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems: hydraulic, electrical diagnostics, general power/mechanical systems, brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, lift gates, brake chambers, welding, fabricating, and panel/replacement work.
Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation in a timely manner.
Follow and enforce safe operating practices, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
Manage parts inventory, perform periodic reconciliation, and obtain parts from approved vendors when needed.
Maintain and pre/post‑trip inspect company‑issued service vehicle.
Respond to call‑center dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.
Communicate repair estimates, purchase order numbers, and findings to management via email or phone.
Operate hand tools, precision instruments, welding equipment, and jacks.
Work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain productivity close to standard repair times.
Assist Senior Mobile Trailer Technicians and internally assist with diagnostics as required.
Requirements
High school diploma or GED and at least 3 years of related trailer experience (or equivalent education/certification and 5 years of experience).
Must possess a set of hand tools needed for the job.
Strong communication skills and ability to work independently in a single‑tech environment.
Emergency background check and DOT‑regulated pre‑employment screening; valid DOT medical card or medical examination required.
Valid driver’s license; at least 21 years old.
Safe driving record; must maintain a Driver Qualification File.
Current DOT FAA physical and screening completed (or valid DOT medical card with >4 months validity).
Certifications
Required or obtained within 18 months:
ASE T8 (PMI) certification.
Preferred:
ASE 608/609, ASE T4 (Brakes), ASE T5 (Suspension), ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems), ASE T7 (HVAC).
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience supporting dedicated or on‑site customer accounts.
Familiarity with fleet maintenance environments.
Ability to prioritize and manage workload with minimal supervision.
Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of trailer parts and systems for repair and maintenance.
Good judgment in problem analysis and decision making.
Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform repetitive tasks.
Strong written and verbal communication, including accurate documentation and two‑way communication with clients and colleagues.
Ability to determine necessary tools and equipment.
Logical reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions.
