Responsibilities
Execute the design, development, debugging, and hardware/software integration of embedded firmware solutions for new and existing electrical wiring devices according to product specifications.
Actively participate in hardware design by working across firmware and electronics domains, including schematic interpretation, hardware/firmware partitioning, board bring‑up, and root‑cause debugging of mixed hardware/software issues to ensure optimal wiring‑device design.
Implement firmware for wiring‑device applications such as switches, dimmers, switched receptacles, GFCI’s, AFCI’s, etc., that interface with low‑rate wireless networks (IEEE 802.15.4).
Use integrated tools to plan, develop, test, and deploy software as part of a single workflow; Azure DevOps experience preferred.
Develop and implement comprehensive test strategies for embedded firmware and hardware systems, including test plan creation, automated and manual test execution, debugging, and root‑cause analysis to verify functionality, reliability, and regulatory compliance across the product lifecycle.
Work effectively within cross‑functional teams to achieve project objectives by actively communicating, sharing knowledge, and supporting team members to ensure alignment and successful outcomes.
Coordinate with Engineering Leadership, Product Management, Design Team Members, and System Engineering to ensure firmware development efforts align with the strategic product development plan and business priorities.
Qualifications Education:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
Experience:
Minimum 5+ years in embedded firmware development and testing, including at least 5 years in firmware engineering for new product development.
Required Technical Skills
Strong proficiency in C programming with hands‑on experience developing and debugging firmware for microcontroller‑based systems, including a solid understanding of hardware interaction, peripherals, and low‑level system behavior.
Demonstrated use of Azure DevOps or equivalent with Agile or Kanban processes.
Experience reading Altium design files such as schematics, PCB layout, and assembly drawings; solid understanding of analog and digital circuit fundamentals (power, signal integrity, interfaces, sensors/actuators).
Experience with wireless systems (e.g., Zigbee / IEEE 802.15.4 or similar).
Experience with regulatory or compliance‑driven designs (UL, FCC, etc.).
Strong MS office‑based computer skills, proficient with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software, e‑mail and meeting management software; ability to use AI, internet, and web‑based resources efficiently.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
Ability to present design concepts and project status to team members and engineering leadership.
Experience supporting existing production products through firmware maintenance, field issue resolution, root‑cause analysis, and implementing design changes across the product lifecycle.
Abilities
Operate electronic equipment locally and remotely via serial communications protocols (e.g., RS-232, I²C) and IP‑based communication protocols.
Benefits
