Overview The Consultant Legal Invoice Review QA, for Wolters Kluwer will be responsible for performing the quality assurance review for the Legal Bill Analysis Center of Excellence (LBACOE). The Legal Bill Analysis ("LBA") process involves the prompt, accurate and efficient auditing of electronically submitted legal fee and expense invoices submitted by law firms and vendors of our clients. Key Responsibilities Conduct review of LBACOE Legal Invoice Analysts’ line-item adjustments and non-adjusted invoice lines, applying specialized legal subject matter expertise. Use sound individual discretion to conduct gap filling analysis to decode the legal “story” of an invoice, utilizing required law school education, law firm experience, and/or related specialized legal expertise. Verify compliance of adjusted and non-adjusted line items to legal billing guidelines provided by law firms and vendors. Verify accuracy of the UTBMS task codes (Fee, Activity and Expense codes) applied to invoice line items. Independently make further adjustments to invoice line items as necessary based on assessment of legal context; document reasons for adjustments, identify guideline violated, and rationale for amount adjusted. Promptly and professionally resolve law firm appeals and manage reconsideration requests, including intake queue and communications. Work with law firms in professional written expert‑to‑expert communications to resolve disputed invoice line items. Efficiently review appealed legal invoice entries; exercise independent judgment in audit and adjustment decisions. At management direction, handle escalated law firm appeals and participate in resolution conferences when mediation fails. Conduct periodic audit and data analysis to support management in collecting and verifying performance metrics. Communicate and calibrate with audit and appeals teams; analyze and condense legal service agreements to produce operational tools. Liaise with CIOX Artificial Intelligence Decision Science team on functionality and accuracy improvements. Monitor workflow and performance of partnered legal invoice analysts; identify/escalate concerns to management. Additional Responsibilities and Skills Strong understanding of legal terminology and claims legal situations, including multijurisdictional exposure. Self‑motivated with ability to work independently and with limited supervision after training. Excellent computer skills; ability to learn electronic legal bill submission and auditing software. Sound command of English language, grammar, syntax, style, punctuation, and capitalization. Excellent spelling and proofreading skills. Effective communication and organization skills; familiar with common business math. Professional telephone skills; ability to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions and respond to requests effectively. Job Qualifications Education and Licensure Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree required. Juris Doctor degree from an ABA‑accredited law school required. Experience, Knowledge and Tools At least 5 years of relevant experience in legal services or legal invoice auditing environment. Prior experience with direct communication with law firms in a legal billing context. Experience handling conflict with law firms, in writing and telephonically. Highly developed communication skills (written and verbal). Firm grasp of the Federal and/or State Rules of Civil Procedure. Insurance defense and civil litigation experience preferred. Prior legal invoice auditing experience either in‑house or third‑party preferred. Preferred: Prior US and International legal invoice review experience; auditing claims litigation; insurance company experience; experience handling appeals of legal invoice claims adjustments. Compensation $75,900.00 - $129,950.00 USD; eligible for bonus. Compensation range listed is based on primary location of the position.
