Role Summary The Senior Sales Engineer will be responsible for conducting job walks, evaluating project feasibility, and developing detailed estimates and proposals for a wide range of commercial HVAC systems in existing buildings. A significant portion of time will be dedicated to owning sales opportunities by analyzing job site conditions and client needs, building trust with clients, and proposing well‑structured solutions. This position requires a hands‑on, experienced technical sales professional who thrives in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
Project Site Assessments: Conduct detailed mechanical walk‑throughs to evaluate site conditions, identify project requirements, and determine the best approach for system replacements or upgrades.
Technical Estimating: Prepare detailed cost estimates, labor projections, and material takeoffs based on construction drawings, specs, and site observations. Systems to estimate include:
Air‑Cooled and Water‑Cooled Chillers
Hydronic and Steam Piping Systems
Custom Air Handling Units (AHUs)
Variable Air Volume (VAV) Systems
Rooftop Units (RTUs) up to 100+ Tons
VRF/VRV Systems and Split Systems
Cooling Towers
Make‑Up Air and Exhaust Systems
Large‑Scale Ductwork Systems and Controls Integration
Sales Team Support: Collaborate closely with sales representatives to develop technical scopes and competitive pricing for opportunities. Provide expert input on design approaches and system applications.
Client Engagement: Represent ISS Mechanical during site walks and client meetings. Explain project scopes and mechanical options clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Internal Collaboration: Partner with project managers, service leaders, and field personnel to ensure a smooth project hand‑off and alignment with estimating details.
Qualifications
Experience: 10+ years of commercial HVAC experience, with extensive knowledge of estimating, offering solutions, and selling large systems across a variety of building types.
Technical Skills: Strong understanding of HVAC system design, controls, and performance
Proficient with mechanical plan review and blueprint takeoffs
Experience estimating mid- to large‑scale mechanical replacement projects
Soft Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills
Client‑focused approach with the ability to build rapport and influence decisions
Collaborative mindset with attention to detail and follow‑through
Tools & Technology: Familiarity with estimating software, Microsoft Excel, and mechanical design platforms (AutoCAD, Bluebeam, etc.)
