Position Type: Instructional - High School/ Science - General
The Drafting & Design Teacher creates an engaging, project-based environment where students develop design, drafting, and fabrication skills through real-world applications. Using industry-relevant software and tools, the instructor helps students move from concept development to prototype creation while fostering critical thinking, spatial awareness, collaboration, and a strong maker mentality.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement standards-aligned instruction in Drafting & Design courses, including architectural drafting, mechanical drafting, technical sketching, and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) utilizing industry-standard software such as AutoCAD.
Provide differentiated instruction through project-based learning experiences that support Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways in engineering, architecture, manufacturing, and industrial design.
Integrate digital fabrication and prototyping processes into classroom instruction, enabling students to apply design concepts through hands-on production using fabrication technologies and equipment.
Maintain and supervise the drafting and fabrication laboratory, including routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of equipment such as 3D printers, laser systems, and large-format printers.
Operate and oversee large-format printing systems, including management of blueprint, poster, and technical drawing production.
Establish, teach, and enforce safety procedures and equipment certification protocols in accordance with district policies, CTE program requirements, and industry safety standards.
Support student participation in CTSO and industry-related opportunities, including MITES competitions, exhibitions, showcases, and regional events.
Assist students in the development of digital portfolios and career-readiness materials aligned with postsecondary education and workforce preparation goals.
Collaborate with staff, administration, industry partners, and advisory committees to ensure curriculum alignment with current CTE standards, workforce expectations, and emerging industry practices.
Foster a positive classroom environment that promotes creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solving, and professional workplace skills.
Qualifications Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university and a Michigan Teaching Certificate with at least one of the following endorsements:
Industrial Technology (IX)
Technology and Design (TX) or
Recent/relevant experience within the following CIPS:

The qualified candidate will use creative instructional strategies along with best practices for classroom teaching which promotes interactive learning and student engagement through technology, literature, and writing. The candidate must be adept with technology and ready to consider emergent techniques to enhance student achievement. Candidates will also:
Aide in research, development, implementation, and evaluation of the Science curriculum;
Develop and implement creative and engaging lesson plans;
Incorporate practical application of content knowledge in lesson plans;
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of each learner;
Develop and implement progressive classroom-based interventions;
Utilize progress monitoring;
Monitor and evaluate student development and growth through a variety of assessments;
This position reports to Building Principal.
