Responsibilities
Plan, design, integrate, troubleshoot, and test the physical and logical components of the District’s LAN/WAN, including DNS and DHCP infrastructures, network and systems hardware and software, SAN, and virtual environment, to ensure and/or enhance user access to district network systems and services to authorized users.
Advise and assist in the development and implementation of the District’s information technology plan to respond to short‑ and long‑term administrative and instructional technology needs.
Assist in the development of policies and procedures that guide the proper use of computer technology and the internet for both administrative and instructional purposes.
Plan, implement, and maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures for large systems and networks to ensure rapid recovery from software or hardware problems for mission‑critical systems, networks, and services.
Plan, install, troubleshoot, and maintain physical and virtual servers to ensure reliability of systems and network services and expand the District’s systems infrastructure.
Analyze, identify, and correct technology issues related to software or hardware to maintain equipment in safe, secure, and functional operating condition, and to resolve operational issues and restore services.
Assist in researching and designing solutions in the use of new hardware or software products, including educational applications of technology to provide technical assistance, advice, and support.
Determine appropriate software and hardware installation methods for integration and efficiency, ensuring network connectivity and compliance with District policies, objectives, and standards.
Document procedures and troubleshooting techniques related to systems/networks software and hardware; develop and review documentation before general distribution, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
Monitor and maintain software licensing, documents, and records to ensure compliance with the District’s policies and standards.
Maintain current knowledge of established procedures and adhere to appropriate policies, practices, and guidelines; ensure the completion of assigned department projects in a timely manner.
Plan, install, troubleshoot, and maintain the District’s directory system, providing user authentication and computer management.
Plan, install, troubleshoot, and maintain the District’s management and update systems to provide reliable support and maintenance of desktop and server operating systems.
Serve as a liaison among vendors, technical support hotlines, and departments to resolve complex problems.
Assist in the coordination and implementation of corrective measures that may involve site visits, telephone assistance, remote management, and participation on technical committees.

Qualifications
Education: Any combination equivalent to a bachelor’s degree with a major in computer science or a related field and five years of increasingly responsible experience in system or network design and maintenance.
Licenses and Other Requirements
Valid California Class C Driver’s License.
Certifications such as CCNP, CCDP, CCIP, CCNP‑Security, CCSP, MCSA, or MCAD may be required depending on assignment.
Knowledge
Functions of core hardware and software components that comprise a large system or network, including LAN/WAN, DNS, and DHCP infrastructure, network and systems hardware and software, SAN, and virtual environments.
Analysis and evaluation techniques for planning, designing, integrating, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large complex systems or networks across similar and dissimilar technology platforms.
Techniques of designing systems and networks.
Project management and project tracking.
Database administration and development.
Software development tools.
Current and emerging operating systems, network environments, and protocols.
Router and switch configurations.
Intranet and inter‑intranet applications.
Data security.
Abilities
Determine the systems or networking requirements to plan for or enhance core data processing needs.
Resolve problems with minimal disruption or impact to the system or network.
Exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in designing, planning, troubleshooting, and integrating large complex systems or networks.

Understand WAN‑related problems within area of expertise.
Design, implement, and troubleshoot LANs and WANs over multiple sites.

Re‑engineer workflow for users.
Maintain current knowledge of computer and network industry standards, protocols, and trends.
