Internship Details This role spans software testing, simulation, technical writing, and occasional hardware/software interface validation. The ideal candidate is comfortable working across disciplines and can communicate technical concepts clearly to both engineers and end users.
Location: Brooklyn, NY (On site 4 days a week) Duration: 6 months with a target start date in July 2026 Salary: $20-28/hr | equivalent to $3,200 - $4,500/mo

Develop Monte Carlo and simulation-based tests for signal processing algorithms
Generate synthetic datasets and validation scenarios using the programming language/toolchain of your choice
Integrate automated tests into a Google Test based framework
Analyze algorithm behavior, edge cases, and performance characteristicsAssist with validation of hardware/software interface connections as needed
Contribute to software usability and testing workflows for customer-facing tools
Documentation & Customer-Facing Tools
Write and maintain documentation for a new suite of customer-facing software tools
Develop user guides, setup instructions, workflows, and reference documentation
Collaborate with engineering teams to translate technical functionality into clear user-facing materials
Help improve clarity, usability, and consistency across customer-facing software experiences
Other Technical
Test generation and analysis may be implemented using any suitable language or toolchain
Final automated tests must integrate with a Google Test-based environment
The role may include some hardware interface validation depending on project needs
Qualifications Desired Background
Pursuing or recently completed a degree in:
Computer Science
Electrical Engineering
Biomedical Engineering
Neuroscience with a computational focus
or a related technical field
Familiarity with signal processing, simulation, or statistical analysis
Experience with technical writing or developer/user documentation
Experience with C++, Python, MATLAB, or similar languages
Familiarity with automated testing frameworks (especially Google Test) is a plus
Experience with GUI testing or software usability testing is a plus
Familiarity with BCI systems, neural interfaces, biosignals, or DSP concepts is preferred
Experience participating in BCI research is highly desirable, particularly for candidates who can bring an end-user or researcher perspective to software testing and usability evaluation
Some exposure to hardware systems or EE concepts is beneficial
Ideal Candidate
You enjoy both analytical and communication-focused work: building robust test systems, investigating algorithm behavior, and creating documentation that helps customers effectively use complex software tools. Candidates with hands‑on BCI research experience are especially encouraged to apply, as understanding the customer and researcher workflow is valuable for effective testing and documentation.
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with open‑source development practices and version control
Knowledge and understanding of non‑invasive electrophysiological data processing (EEG, EMG, ECG)
Experience developing software for AR/VR
Experience with machine learning or AI, especially in applications related to physiological data
Bonus points for any use of OpenBCI products
Gain hands‑on neurotechnology experience
Growth potential - OpenBCI is still a small team with lots of room for growth
