As a Senior Data Center Network Engineer, you will contribute to Caterpillar’s state‑of‑the‑art data center network architecture and solutions, responsible for the complete lifecycle of the Data Center Network, including planning, design, deployment, operations, and monitoring to ensure maximum reliability, scalability, and efficiency. Responsibilities Design, document, deploy, and manage Data Center Network solutions through all phases of lifecycle management for Cisco ACI & Nexus equipment and Radware Load Balancers deployed at enterprise hosting locations and local facilities. Support infrastructure and deployment projects across multiple regions and locations. Partner with hardware, software, and vendor teams on the development of data center solutions. Provide project participation, advice, and counsel to IT personnel, management, and project teams on various aspects of enterprise Data Center Network hardware and software. Establish and implement global security and operational best practices and adhere to IT Controls. Adhere to IT Service Management processes, instruction, and procedural documentation. Work with application support teams/customer/operations management to develop plans to minimize the technical and/or business impact of network environment changes. Participate in an on‑call rotation to support the global datacenter network infrastructure 24x7. Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve complex problems within the enterprise Data Center networks. Qualifications Network‑Focused Problem Solving: Deep understanding of troubleshooting methodologies, tools, and workflows specific to data center environments. Network Troubleshooting: Extensive hands‑on experience with troubleshooting techniques and remediate issues across physical and cloud‑integrated network environments. Technical Excellence in Data Center Networking: Strong expertise in data center networking technologies and spine‑leaf architectures; ability to design and implement scalable, resilient, and high‑performance network solutions to meet demanding enterprise workloads. Technology Advisory (Networking Domain): Ability to provide strategic guidance on network architecture, capacity planning, and technology selection; advising on best practices within data center networks. Data Center Hardware & Infrastructure: In‑depth knowledge of network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers) and physical infrastructure (rack/stack, cabling, power, and cooling); ability to design, deploy, and maintain highly available, multi‑vendor network environments. Network System Testing & Validation: Experience designing and executing network validation and testing strategies, including failover testing, performance benchmarking, and change validation; ensures stability and reliability of network changes throughout the infrastructure lifecycle. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field. Extensive experience designing, deploying, and operating large‑scale networks. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent. Experience with Cisco Nexus Network Switches and NX‑OS. Experience with Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI). Experience with Application Delivery Controller (Network Load Balancer). Experience with Radware Alteon. Strong communication, teamwork, analytical, interpersonal, and customer service skills. Ability to communicate service interruptions clearly; management and impacted customers must be aware of the situation and anticipated recovery time. Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously and delivering against deadlines in a complex global environment. Location The primary location for this position is Peoria, IL, Dallas, TX, or Nashville, TN. This role requires 5 days onsite. Relocation and sponsorship are not available. Pay Range $112,710.00 – $183,140.00. Compensation and benefits may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience.
