Summary Thomson Reuters Special Services (TRSS) seeks a Data Scientist to support Federal Law Enforcement customers. The role involves collecting, integrating, analyzing, modeling, and explaining large datasets to aid complex investigations across multiple agencies. About the Role TRSS Data Scientists serve Federal Law Enforcement missions including Threat Detection, Money Laundering, Fraud, Force Protection, Human Rights Crimes, Transnational Crime, and more. The position is based on U.S. Government sites in Washington, DC (no telework). It requires independence, creativity, and a mission‑focused mindset. Responsibilities Collect, clean, verify, and maintain large data sets to support investigations. Apply statistical methods, graph networks, anomaly detection, spatial analysis, pattern‑of‑life analysis, and sentiment analysis to identify actionable insights. Develop risk models, community detection algorithms, classification models, computer vision techniques, and general machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions. Create dashboards, visualizations, and narratives to explain findings to non‑technical audiences. Write, test, and maintain Python code; use SQL for data extraction and pipeline design. Handle sensitive, confidential, or regulated data in accordance with applicable policies. Interface directly with customers at all levels, representing TRSS, and work independently or as part of a cross‑disciplinary team. Translate customer requests into clear project plans, deliver goals and methods, and produce actionable results within required timeframes. Qualifications U.S. citizenship (required for government contracts). Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance or agency work suitability determination. Full‑time on‑site availability in Washington, DC (specific office locations may change). Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical field (data science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, GIS, etc.). At least 3 years of relevant experience in large‑data management, analysis, modeling, or storytelling. Proficiency in Python programming and SQL. Experience with sensitive or regulated data handling. Strong communication and customer‑interface skills. Ability to work independently and within a team. Preferred Qualifications Current or active government work‑suitability or security clearance. Experience working with law‑enforcement agencies. Programming skills in languages other than Python (e.g., R, Java, SQL). Experience with software development best practices: version control, linting/testing, containerization, and REST APIs. Pay Range $94,000USD – $175,000USD (location dependent, Washington, DC, McLeanVA, or other specified U.S. locations).
