What you’ll do We are seeking a Network Engineer to deliver network and on‑prem operational readiness for new and existing facilities, sites and data centers. This role will manage end‑to‑end infrastructure implementation including routing, switching, wireless, circuits, cabling, and onsite vendor coordination. The ideal candidate combines strong networking experience with practical Layer1 knowledge of cabling, building infrastructure, fiber plants, racks, patch panels, power and general IT infrastructure. This role requires excellent management, communication skills, and the ability to deliver reliable office networks that meet performance, security, and scalability needs.
This is a site‑based role; employees work 3+ days (60 %+) per week from a Viasat office or work location within a standard five‑day workweek.
The day‑to‑day
Manage end‑to‑end hardware procurement, inventory, configuration, and deployment for office buildouts and expansions.
Participate in IT infrastructure coordination with other business organizations for specific project phases, including planning, scheduling, and execution.
Oversee cabling vendors, low‑voltage contractors, and ISPs to ensure high‑quality and timely delivery of services.
Implement and support network technologies, including switching, routing, wireless, and firewalls.
Validate circuit delivery, test network performance, and ensure readiness for production use.
Maintain documentation including network diagrams, IP schemas, and infrastructure standards.
Work with the network team and cross‑functional teams to ensure cohesive project execution.
Troubleshoot complex network and infrastructure issues and provide ongoing operational support.

This position is site‑based. Employees work 3+ days (60 %+) per week from a Viasat office or work location within a standard five‑day workweek. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment. Relocation assistance is available pending eligibility.

What you’ll need
Education: Completion of a Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or a related field.
Experience: 0‑3 years of full‑time, relevant industry experience.
Citizenship: US citizenship required.
Travel: Ability to travel up to 30‑50 % domestically and/or internationally for deployments.
Comfortable working in active construction environments during deployment phases.
Ability to work occasional after‑hours or weekend during cutovers or critical events.
Understanding of Layer1 and/or cabling (e.g., copper and fiber extensions, ISP handoffs, dark fiber plants, cross‑connections, UPS and PDU's).
Experience with routing and/or switching (e.g., Juniper Mist, Palo Alto).
What will help you on the job
Experience deploying and supporting wired and wireless networks in office environments.
Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLANs, VPN, and network security fundamentals.
Experience working with ISPs and managing circuit delivery (fiber, MPLS, broadband).
Familiarity with infrastructure compute platforms (Windows, Linux, virtualization technologies).
Ability to read and interpret structured cabling diagrams and construction documentation.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Excellent project coordination and vendor‑management capabilities. Relevant certifications (e.g., JCNIA, PCNSA, CCNA).
Familiarity with IPSEC VPN, Palo Alto SCM, Juniper Mist and NaaS.
Background supporting conference room AV systems or office hardware systems.
Salary range $75,000.00 – $118,000.00 annually. For positions in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area, and the New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range is $93,000.00 – $139,000.00 annually.
