Network Engineer II The right candidate will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex network infrastructures. The engineer will collaborate with IT teams to ensure network reliability, implement upgrades, and provide technical support for escalated issues. Additional duties include monitoring network performance, optimizing configurations, and participating in network‑related projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain computer networks including routers, switches, VPNs, and other physical hardware/software
Monitor systems to improve network performance for all systems
Troubleshoot, resolve, and communicate networking issues to other employees and management
Research, install, configure, and upgrade network hardware and software
Create firewall rules and update software and data security systems to keep data and communications protected
Provide on‑site support for projects that require on‑site installation and support
Design and implement new network solutions and/or improve the efficiency of current networks
Arrange scheduled upgrades
Investigate faults in the network
Update network equipment to the latest firmware releases
Conduct business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company
Report on network status to key stakeholders.
Improve knowledge and understanding of network and security best practices to offer the best solutions and protection to company systems.
Additional Responsibilities
Participate in on‑call rotation
Ability to travel overnight
Regular and reliable attendance.
Qualifications Education and/or Experience
2‑4 years of hands‑on experience in network engineering, technical support, or similar roles, with demonstrable expertise in troubleshooting and resolving complex network issues.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Comprehensive understanding of network protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, VPN, routing, switching, and network security.
Experience with enterprise‑grade networking hardware and software, such as Cisco, Juniper, HP, or similar platforms, including configuration, maintenance, and firmware updates.
Proven ability to use network monitoring and diagnostic tools (Wireshark, SolarWinds, Nagios) for performance analysis, fault detection, and incident resolution.
Ability to create and maintain detailed documentation, including network diagrams, configuration records, and incident reports.
Strong problem‑solving skills with a logical approach to troubleshooting and the capacity to handle urgent, high‑impact issues calmly and efficiently.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts to stakeholders with varying levels of expertise.
Demonstrated teamwork and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to collaboration and ongoing professional development.
Relevant certifications strongly preferred, such as CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent industry credentials.
Willingness to participate in on‑call schedules, provide after‑hours support as needed, and adapt to shifting priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Familiarity with current best practices for network security, compliance, and disaster recovery planning.
Physical requirements: Ability to sit for majority of an 8‑hour workday; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision. The noise level is generally moderate.
Must have a vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field from a four‑year college or university preferred.
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) preferred.
Working knowledge regarding Cisco Firewalls preferred.
Experience working with the F5 Load Balancer preferred.
