Primary Description of Work
The primary purpose of this position is technical and operational support of the entire UNCSA campus data communications network (wired and wireless), optical fiber and copper-based cable plant, network management software tools, network hardware interconnectivity, network security policy enforcement, end user connectivity needs, future network design changes, new equipment evaluations and installations, and technology consultation for new construction projects.

Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Description of Responsibilities and Duties
Plan and execute selection, installation, configuration, testing and troubleshooting of LAN, WAN, wireless networks, layer 3 switches, IP telephony, emergency notification devices, and related equipment.
Install and support UNCSA’s LANs, WANs, network segments, Internet, and intranet systems, including Routing, Switching, VLANs, and Inter‑VLAN Interfaces.
Assist in network design, implementation, and on‑boarding of users.
Create, monitor, and enforce network usage policies and access rules.
Configure and monitor Cisco access control lists, Firepower firewalls, ISE, Umbrella, Stealthwatch, and Splunk security events.
Maintain connectivity of computers, laptops, tablets, and ensure network performance of LAN/WLAN/WAN infrastructure.
Support new campus data connections, device installation, and interconnections among peripherals.
Monitor network performance and isolate issues.
Assist in selection, implementation, and maintenance of core infrastructure systems such as IP telephony, voicemail, wireless mapping.
Provide VoIP setup, support, and user training.
Develop and maintain network documentation, diagrams, and policies.
Review and recommend security improvements, system upgrades.
Participate in conferences, seminars, and certification programs for continuing skill development.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; or equivalent education/experience.
2+ years experience in a network administration role.
Network security experience.
Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network devices including Meraki Wireless, NAC, and Next‑Generation Firewalls.
Experience with Cisco products: Catalyst IOS, Nexus switches, FTD Firewall and VPN, ISE, IP telephones, Umbrella, Stealthwatch, and Wireless Infrastructure.
Experience with Splunk.
Prior experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2008/2012/2016.
Prior experience with VMware networking.
CCNA or CCNP certification (plus).

S1 12‑month contract.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong understanding of computer network infrastructure.
Proven network engineering, operations, and performance analysis skills.
Hands‑on technical troubleshooting capabilities.
Ability to create network diagrams and documentation.
Knowledge of application transport and network protocols.
Experience with L3 Cisco switches.
Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
Familiarity with network management and monitoring tools.
Exceptional critical thinking and problem‑solving abilities.
Strong interpersonal skills to assist non‑technical individuals.
