Mashburn aims to be the best in American style and service... a brand that offers luxury‑quality product at accessible prices, delivered with a memorable customer experience, and driven by a deeply personal brand voice that expresses the passion and inspiration of our founders.
WHAT IS THE JOB? We are seeking a Data Engineer to join our internal data team and take hands‑on ownership of our existing data warehouse and dbt environment built on Google BigQuery. This role focuses on maintaining and enhancing an established analytics stack and data models that are currently supported in part by external developers. The primary goal is to bring more of this work in‑house by developing a deep understanding of business processes and translating requirements directly into reliable data transformations. Implementing new data sources and new data models will also be key to the position.
The Data Engineer will partner closely with BI developers and business stakeholders to deliver trusted, analytics‑ready datasets that support reporting and decision‑making across the organization. While this role does not develop dashboards or reports, it plays a critical role in ensuring the quality, consistency, and usability of the data that powers them.
This is an individual contributor position with no people management responsibilities. Over time, the role will assume greater ownership of key data domains, more complex transformations, and broader responsibility for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the organization’s data assets. Success in this role will be measured by improved delivery speed, reduced reliance on external development, and increased trust in data used across the business.
WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES?
Maintain, extend, and improve an existing dbt project and BigQuery data warehouse
Develop and optimize SQL transformations that accurately reflect business logic
Work directly with business stakeholders to understand processes and data usage
Manage existing and build new ELT pipelines
Implement changes in dbt
Refactor inherited models for clarity, performance, and reliability where appropriate
Integrate data from external systems and APIs (rest, graphql, etc)
Partner with Power BI developers to ensure datasets support accurate reporting
Contribute to data quality through testing, documentation, and validation
Leverage AI‑assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude, etc) to amplify your abilities, enhance productivity, and problem solving but not as a replacement for skill, judgement, or ownership
WHAT ARE THE ESSENTIAL SKILLS?
2–4+ years of professional experience writing SQL and performing data transformations using dbt
Hands‑on experience using dbt in a production analytics environment
Experience working with Google BigQuery, Snowflake, or Databricks
Ability to navigate, understand, and improve existing data models written by others
Enjoy working in a team environment and collaborating across departments to understand the business and how that impacts the data
Strong ability to learn and understand business processes and apply them to data logic
Experience interfacing with APIs (rest and/or graphql)
Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team‑oriented mindset
Reflects our core values of hopeful, helpful, hardworking, humble, nimble, hospitable and honest.
