Job Description The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting a student worker for the Office of Information Technology Security Operations Center. This in‑person role serves on the OIT Security Operations team as a junior security analyst. Junior Analysts support the OIT Security Operations Center by triaging phishing reports, analyzing security logs, and communicating effectively with the campus community. Successful candidates will demonstrate critical problem‑solving ability and a willingness to learn and adapt. Responsibilities Triage phishing email reports in abuse inbox Escalation of events to incidents Monitoring of security dashboards Basic vulnerability scanning with Tenable Assist Compliance Officers with IT security training Create reports Analyze security logs for anomalous activity Perform basic threat hunting Managing security tickets in ITSM platform Other tasks as assigned Required Qualifications Must be currently enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno Candidate must have a set graduation date of Spring 2028 or later Basic understanding of modern enterprise business technology (operating systems, networking, active directory, group policy, etc.) Preferred Qualifications Advanced understanding of modern enterprise business technology (operating systems, networking, active directory, group policy, etc.) Compensation and Work Hours Student Employee Level 2. Expected hours to work per week: 15. Exempt. No Full‑Time Equivalent: 37.5%.
