Accounting Manager

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting. This role leads key close activities, maintains strong internal controls, supports audits, and partners across the business to improve financial processes and compliance. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and a continuous improvement mindset.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage the monthly and year-end close processes to ensure accurate and timely financial results.
  • Oversee general ledger activity, account reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop accounting staff; assign work, review output, and support professional growth.
  • Review complex reconciliations, resolve accounting discrepancies, and provide guidance on transaction coding and accounting treatment.
  • Assist in the preparation of audit schedules including financial statements and disclosures for the Foundation.
  • Assist with the generation of information for outside accounting firm in preparation of the annual 990-T return for the Foundation.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and system enhancements to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Oversee Foundation accounting, including routine transactions, reconciliations, reporting, and related compliance support.
  • Support special projects and ad hoc financial analyses as needed.

Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls. Experience managing month-end close, audits, and accounting operations in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail. Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate across functions. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Not-for-profit experience.

EducationBachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required. Experience5-8 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibility.

Candidates must reside within 75-miles of the Northfield, IL office and meet in-office requirements. Salary: $100,000 - $128,000.
