Provides service to Clients, Patients, and Hospital Divisions. Answers phones, reports results, and assists clients (20%) Competency #7 Registers and Accessions Surgical and Cytology specimens for diagnosis, maintains specimen TAT and Integrity (40%) Competency #4 Sections tissue samples and stains slides for Frozen section histological diagnosis (15%) Competency #6 Assists with laboratory support functions (15%) Competency #5 Miscellaneous duties (10%) Competency #7 Additional Responsibilities
Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation. Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Qualifications: Education
High School Equivalent / GED (Required) and
Associate's Degree in a science related field (Preferred)
Work Experience
2+ years Of experience in a similar position and can demonstrate proficiency of all skills in that level. (Required) and
Prior histology lab experience (Preferred)
Previous Medical Laboratory experience (Preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Lab equipment maintenance (Preferred proficiency)
Microsoft Office skills in Word and Excel (Required proficiency)
Customer service skills (Required proficiency)
Knowledge of medical terminology (Required proficiency)
Knowledge of pathology terminology (Required proficiency)
Knowledge of pathology lab testing including reflex pathways for anatomic pathology. (Required proficiency)
Computer skills essential; knowledge of laboratory information systems (Preferred proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
Medical Lab Technician (MLT-ASCP) MLT/HT (Preferred)
