Job Title: Software Engineer Level 4 (Java Backend Developer)
Location: Chicago, IL OR Peoria, IL (Hybrid 2–3 days onsite)
Duration: 12 months with potential to be extended
Travel: Minimal (if any, within Chicago/Peoria)

Primary Responsibility Develop, maintain, enhance, and support backend services.
Key Technical Requirements
8+ years in Java
1+ year in AWS
AWS services extensively used
Preferred testing tools: Cucumber, Selenium
Postman not preferred; team uses alternative tools
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Daily stand‑ups
Sprint activities
Work from Azure DevOps Scrum board
Occasional involvement in high‑level design
Candidate Profile Expectations
Strong backend development background (critical)
Hands‑on coding experience preferred over architecture‑heavy profiles
Collaborate within and across teams
Contribute to design discussions when needed
Clear project history with proper timelines
Explanation required for any employment gaps

Asset management
Other evolving enterprise areas
Emphasis on diverse backend service development, not limited to one domain
Job Responsibilities
Review and approve modifications of existing databases and database management systems
Direct database development and approve project scope and limitations
Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard information
Approve, schedule, plan, and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements
Develop standards and guidelines to guide use and acquisition of software
Skills

Expert ability to work independently and manage one’s time
Expert mentoring skills to provide support and constructive performance feedback
Expert knowledge of the full software development lifecycle
Expert knowledge of computer hardware and software
Knowledge of computer development software (e.g., SQL, Visual Basic)
Education / Experience
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or relevant field required
8+ years experience required
Technical Skills
At least 8 years of software development experience in Java (or equivalent)
1+ year experience in AWS: cloud formation, ECS, Lambda, Fargate, Amazon Elasticsearch, S3, IAM
Designing, developing, deploying and maintaining software at scale
3 years of experience building with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Developing applications using relational and NoSQL databases
Application architectural patterns: MVC, Microservices, Event‑driven
Deploying with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps
Experience with batch or stream processing (SQS, SNS, Kinesis)
Designing well‑defined RESTful APIs; experience with Swagger, Postman, Assertible
Testing tools: Selenium, Cucumber, integration into CI/CD pipelines
Datastores: DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, Elasticsearch, MySQL, Oracle
Solid knowledge of data structures and algorithms
Soft Skills (Required)
Ability to work under pressure and within time constraints
Passion for technology and eagerness to contribute to a team‑oriented environment
Interaction with Team Significant interaction required with Scrum team during all ceremonies (Daily Standups, Sprint Planning, Grooming, Retro, Demo). Also interact for PR reviews and engagement with other teams as needed.
Work Environment Hybrid schedule with 2–3 days onsite at Chicago or Peoria.

Must have current residence in the local area; relocation on own dime expected if not
Resume must clearly show front‑end and back‑end experience; front‑end only does not qualify
