The Medical Assistant/X-ray Technician (MA/X-ray Tech) is part of a primary care team and is responsible to assist with coordination and providing panel management services to patients within the practice. Supports the improvement of health outcomes through scheduling preventative and maintenance care appointments, educating patients, building the medical home between patients and practitioners, and enhancing communication and continuity of care. The MA/X-ray Tech works with the care team to increase patient's access to appointments, services, and health care resources thereby supporting patient's self-care management goals. Medical Assistant/X-ray Technician is responsible for everything from administrative work to clinical patient care by assisting in examination and treatment of patients under direction of Physician by performing the following duties.

Interview patients, measure vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, O2 SAT.

Verify and obtain patient information and medical history.

Prepare patients for examination and prepare examinations rooms.

Administer injectable and oral medications.

Administer injectable and oral immunizations to infants and adults, including Mantoux test.

Perform routine in office lab duties such as Hct, urinalysis dipstick, pregnancy test, strep antigen screen, Hgb A1c, blood glucose, blood lead, and other CLIA waived laboratory tests.

Operate medical equipment such as EKG, vitals machine, Audiometry, Nebulizer treatment, Tympanometry, and other diagnostic equipment.

Perform office procedures such as Snellen, ear lavage, minor wound dressing, casting, splinting and assist with minor procedures.

Assist with referrals such as making referrals, calls medical facility or department to schedule patients and request reports.

Ensure assigned exam rooms are cleaned and restocked with medical supplies and monthly expirations are performed.

Report any clinical issues, supply request, supply problem or defective equipment to Supervisor.

Review and prepare daily huddle for providers, using software programs such as EHR and i2i.

Ensure that patient records are accurate and complete, ensure that encounter forms are completed properly.

Ensures that all clinical Team duties/tasks are completed appropriately, satisfactorily and in a timely manner.

Runs report from computerized registries and software programs such as EHR and i2i as needed by department.

Prepares appropriate forms as required for the patient's medical treatment based on findings of physician.

Gives counseling, care and follow-up instructions, health education and materials to patients under the direct supervision of a Physician, Podiatrist or Licensed Nurse.

Performs general office duties such as answering telephones, taking messages, and scheduling appointments.

Other duties may be assigned.

May rotate within Primary Care Teams.

May rotate or be assigned to other locations to fill in, in case of sick leave or vacation.

Assumes responsibility for own personal and professional growth.

Maintains a safe and secure and healthy work environment by establishing and following policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control standards.

Position may be re-assigned during activation of EOP.

Takes prescribed X-rays such as chest and extremity studies, maintains, responsible for service calls for x-ray equipment and maintains x-ray files and records.

Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patients and staff.

Performs all quality control procedures as outlined in departmental procedure manuals.

Maintains a checkout file log and tracking records.

Consistently adheres to established safety policies and practices.

Compares requisition orders with written orders to ensure the proper exam is performed and to note any special instructions.

Completes documentation accurately in EPIC.

Perform X-Ray examination ordered by provider.

XT: Spine, and Extremity examinations.

Confirm correct examination ordered by provider.

Perform examination with the proper technique following ALARA guidelines.

Prepare necessary paperwork.

Female pregnancy questionnaire.

Pregnancy waiver form.

Clean and stock the X-Ray suite.

Disinfect X-Ray plate, table, bucky, sponges, and X-Ray tube.

Stock X-Ray suite cabinet with gowns, chux, and shorts.

Maintain X-Ray files and reports.

Enter radiologist reading/conclusion into patient's chart.

Process X-Ray examination to digital copy (CD) at the request of patients or providers for outside provider viewing (referral).

Contact radiologist facility medical records for STAT reads at the request of providers.

Purge hard copy X-Ray films.

Maintain X-Ray logs.

a. Daily cleaning log for X-Ray suite.

Keep a record of every examination performed with a checklist of readings received by radiologist.

Troubleshoot any X-Ray issues.

Remain in contact with IT department for any network problems.

Remain in contact with the manufacturer for any equipment problems.

Travel is not required for this position.

Driving is not required for this position.

Must be a graduate of a vocational or technical college in medical assisting and X-Ray Technician.

Entry level 1 year preferred.

Experience working in pediatrics, other specialty practices preferred.

Knowledge of HIPAA and patient confidentiality protocols.

Knowledge of medical and x-ray terminology.

Knowledge of radiology safe practices.

Skilled in all medical assisting competencies (e.g., immunizations, vitals, taking labs, etc.)

Skilled in X-ray Technician competencies.

Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.

Strong attention to detail skills.

Skilled in working effectively with other team members to coordinate care of patients.

Ability to prioritize and manage important information requests.

Productivity Software: Microsoft Office 365; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email & Calendar Management (outlook), Teams (video conferencing and meetings), and Share Point.

Electronic health records software (NextGen preferred).

Utilization of Paycom, Relias Learning, and PolicyTech systems.

Medical assistant certification.

Limited or full scope x-ray license in California.

CPT preferred.

Current AED CPR certification or attainment within 6 months of hire.

Applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam, tuberculin skin test or x-ray and urine drug screen test.

Health must be adequate to perform all duties of the position.

Must pass criminal background check.

Indoor clinical setting.
