Phlebotomist

Under the direction of the Laboratory Coordinator, Practice Manager and/or site Medical Director collects blood specimens using venipuncture or capillary puncture techniques; instructs patients in the collection of urine and other body fluids/specimens. Processes specimens correctly and tracks receipt of results. Under the direction of a qualified instructor, performs lab testing after documented training is established.

Required Skills/Qualifications/Training/Experience:

• Ability to perform venipuncture and capillary collection techniques proficiently and safely
• Attention to detail and effective organizational skills
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Knowledge of and adherence to universal precaution techniques and requirements
• Completion of a 12 week orientation period
• Command of verbal and written English
• Positive interpersonal communication skills
• Good organizational skills

Preferred Skills/Qualifications/Training/Experience:

• Educational Requirements: Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training course required
• License/Certification: Phlebotomy certificate
• Age Specific Criteria: Ability to effectively communicate to all age levels served within the scope of the position/assigned areas.
• Ability to Meet Job Performance Expectations: Must have the ability to perform essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of themselves or other individuals in the workplace, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
