Essential Duties or Responsibilities 1. Lab Preparation and Instructional Support Prepare and organize science labs for use by full- and part-time instructors. Assist instructors during laboratory sessions and in proctoring exams, as needed. Support faculty in assessing student performance and documenting academic achievement. 2. Lab Maintenance and Inventory Management Clean and maintain all lab spaces to ensure a safe and orderly environment. Monitor inventory and coordinate the ordering of supplies, equipment, chemicals, specimens, and glassware for all labs. 3. Safety Oversight and Compliance Serve as the Lab Safety Officer for the Math and Science Division, ensuring OSHA compliance across all lab facilities, including extension sites. Attend lab safety training and maintain current knowledge of chemical safety protocols and guidelines. Possess or obtain Chemical Hygiene Officer Certification within six months of hire. 4. Safety Training and Documentation Develop and maintain the SCC Chemical Hygiene Plan, including procedures for chemical handling, training documentation, and the Lab Safety Guide. Coordinate the Chemical Disposal Plan in compliance with applicable state and federal regulations. Provide safety training related to lab procedures, blood-borne pathogens, and infectious disease control. QualificationsBachelor's degree in Biological Science, Chemistry, or a closely related field. One to two years of experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in an academic environment. Current knowledge of, and ability to apply, relevant local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA standards for chemical handling and disposal. Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of laboratory procedures, safety regulations, and chemical handling protocols. Skill in organizing, preparing, and maintaining laboratory spaces and scientific equipment. Ability to interpret and apply OSHA, state, and federal safety guidelines. Proficiency in maintaining inventory, ordering supplies, and managing documentation related to lab safety. Effective interpersonal and communication skills to support faculty, staff, and students. Ability to develop and deliver safety training sessions and maintain related records. Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a safety-critical environment.
