Job Summary: Provide essential clinical support in the operating room, assisting anesthesia providers, surgeons, and team members with procedural tasks to ensure smooth and safe surgical care. Essential Responsibilities
Assist with preparation and management of surgical instruments and equipment, adhering to sterilization and safety standards such as AMMI, AORN, and AST guidelines. Perform cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of instruments and supplies. Prioritize tasks effectively, adjusting to changes in department activity and workflow. Use supplies judiciously to maintain quality care without waste. Support nursing staff by obtaining non-routine supplies promptly to avoid delays in patient care. Collaborate with surgical teams to plan and adjust patient care provisions as needed. Contribute to updating preference cards, instrument sets, and supply pull sheets in response to technological advances. Promote teamwork by accepting and delegating tasks appropriately. Work closely with healthcare providers to coordinate intraoperative care, including instrument and supply setup. Maintain a professional, calm environment with minimal noise to enhance patient and staff experience. Exemplify excellent guest relations with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers. Collaborate to optimize patient flow and adapt to changes in daily surgical schedules. Patient Safety
Ensure thorough cleaning and sterilization of all surgical instruments and equipment. Prepare for surgical interventions tailored to individual patient needs and respond to unexpected changes during procedures. Adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations and social media policies. Verify medications and supplies passed to the sterile field using a double-check system. Maintain a culture of safety by reporting any breaches in sterile technique or patient care protocols. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of anatomy, instruments, and equipment. Share expertise through orientation, cross-training, and mentoring of peers and new staff. Identify learning needs and collaborate with management to pursue professional growth opportunities. Participate in departmental goal setting and attend in-services on product and practice changes. Customer Service
Build strong relationships with physicians, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare professionals. Maintain a quiet, professional environment for patients. Practice AIDET communication techniques to enhance patient and team interactions. Foster a collaborative and approachable team atmosphere. Be flexible with assignments, staffing, and shift changes as needed. Education and Certification Requirements
Current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) licensed by the appropriate state nursing board.
Work Schedule: Full-time, 7:00am - 3:30pm, 40 hours per week. This position is located in a regional healthcare facility serving the Midwest area of the United States.
