Position Overview The Medical Assistant shall provide clinical support services at LBNL’s employee occupational health clinic to ensure employee health, regulatory compliance and best EH&S practices. The Medical Assistant shall provide support for both front and back office activities. These activities include, but are not limited to, greeting patients, answering phone calls and emails, scheduling and rescheduling appointments for multiple health care providers, managing clinic calendars, extensive medical record handling, patient intakes and initial evaluations, provision of specialized services based upon reason for visit and referral to appropriate level of health care provider. Requirements Medical Assistant Qualification Requirements Graduation from an accredited medical assistant program with current certification as a Medical Assistant in the State of California, free from disciplinary action, and minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience. Phlebotomy Technician experience and ability to administer injections (e.g., flu shots). Shall have the ability to effectively consult with others and a strong understanding of applicable safety regulations. Sound customer service, administrative and technical skills; knowledge of Google Suite (GMail, Calendar, Drive, Docs and Sheets), Microsoft Office, Smartsheets and electronic medical records systems. Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment. Familiarity with Worker’s Compensation guidelines and processes. Shall be able to sit at a desk and/or be on their feet and walk eight (8) hours a day. Subcontractor personnel shall be able to assume and maintain various postural positions including lifting.
Desired Qualifications
National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Certification in spirometry
American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Certification in audiometry
American Heart Association (AHA) Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
Key Responsibilities
Greet patients and provide professional, patient-centered service
Answer clinic phone calls and emails
Schedule and reschedule appointments for multiple providers
Manage clinic calendars and workflow
Perform patient intakes and initial evaluations
Handle extensive medical record documentation in EMR systems
Provide specialized clinical services based on reason for visit
Refer patients to appropriate healthcare provider levels
Support adherence to occupational health and EH&S regulations
Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to maintain an efficient clinic environment
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit and/or stand and walk for up to eight (8) hours per day
Ability to assume and maintain various postural positions including, but not limited to, kneeling, reaching, stooping, bending, crouching, and lifting
