Program Overview Provide IC data management support to modernize megadata repositories, dataflow management, data provenance, compliance validation, and streaming solutions. About The Role Peraton seeks a skilled Data Scientist Engineer to join the team in Laurel, MD. The role involves developing machine‑learning, data‑mining, statistical, and graph‑based algorithms, prototyping models, and generating reports and visualizations that deliver data‑driven insights to customers. The engineer partners with subject‑matter experts to translate manual data analysis into automated analytics and implements prototype algorithms within production frameworks for analyst workflows. Responsibilities include:
Develop machine‑learning and deep‑learning models to address complex problems. Build and optimize Large Language Models (LLM) for NLP and information retrieval tasks. Prototype and evaluate algorithms, choosing the best approach based on metrics such as cross‑validation, ROC curves, and confusion matrices. Generate data visualizations and statistical tests to derive insights and recommendations. Collect or simulate data through experiments when required data are unavailable. Collaborate with subject‑matter experts to extract and transform data from formats such as SQL tables, structured metadata, and network logs. Guide and oversee analysis projects, tuning models and input parameters.
Qualifications BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., statistics, mathematics, engineering, computer science) and five (5) years of experience analyzing datasets and developing analytics, plus five (5) years of programming with R, Python, SAS, or MATLAB. Alternatively, four (4) years of experience in software development, cloud development, analytics, or predictive analytics can substitute for a bachelor’s degree. Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline can substitute for four (4) years of experience. Ability to produce data visualizations that convey dataset structure. Experience extracting information from diverse data formats and incorporating it into feature vectors. Proficiency with GPU computing for model training and deployment. Strong grasp of statistical and machine‑learning techniques for descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
Familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG), agents, and agentic workflows.
Clearance Requirement: An active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph is required. Details
Target Salary Range: $176,000 – $282,000 (dependent on factors such as role scope, experience, location, etc.).
