Dermatology Physician Position The incumbent physician is expected to provide comprehensive patient care in the form of consultative inpatient and outpatient Dermatology patient care at the SBYVAMC. The physician will manage patients with ongoing medical conditions outpatient, in collaboration with other services of the SBYVAMC. The incumbent is accountable to the Chief of Medicine Service assuring the most effective delivery of care. Functions or Scope of Assigned Duties lists the major duties and responsibilities of the position:
Current BLS required Interviews, examines, selects diagnostic testing appropriately, and interprets/collates results to coordinate patient care. Communicates and documents with clarity to patients and medical personnel to coordinate patient care Procedural skills may include simple excision and repair, skin and nail biopsy, electro surgery basic cryosurgery Consultative input to outpatient and inpatient care. Collaborate with midlevel providers and physician colleagues with clear communication and documentation. Performs the administrative components of patient care management, such as: Participate in the educational programs for the section personnel as well as the medical staff. Participate in monitoring the quality, safety and appropriateness of patient care, both at the Section and facility level. Miscellaneous activities of the Medical Service inclusive, but not limited to special projects that help fulfill and/or enhance the mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs as assigned by the Chief of Medicine, Chief of Staff and/or the SBY VAMC Executive Leadership Demonstrate ethical conduct and serve as a positive role model to others at all levels of the organization Participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews Attend Medicine Service monthly staff meetings and COS quarterly meetings as per bylaws Complete medical records in accordance with Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff- Participate in Medical Staff committee assignments Perform other duties assigned by the Chief of Medicine, his Associate. Participate in, and attend, CME activities and VA continuing educational activities

Age, Developmental, & Cultural Needs of Patients: The primary age of patients treated and cared for are normally at the geriatric level, i.e. 60 years of age or older, although occasionally there may be younger patients between the ages of 18-60 years of age that require care. The position requires possess or develop an understanding of the particular needs of these types of patients. Sensitivity to the special needs of all patients in respect to age, developmental requirements, and culturally related factors must be consistently achieved. Computer Security:
Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, Federal, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy. Protects the data from unauthorized release, from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion. Follows applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc.
Uses word processing software to execute several office automation functions such as storing and retrieving electronic documents and files; activating printers; inserting and deleting text, formatting letters, reports, and memoranda; and transmitting and receiving e-mail. Uses the VHA Information and Technology Architecture (VistA) and Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) for patient care documentation. Uses Clinical Procedure (CP) software for documentation of patient procedures.
