Key responsibilities of a counter staff member may include:
- Greeting customers as they approach the counter with a friendly smile, and professional demeanor.
- Taking Orders:
- Accurately taking customer orders, including specifying options, quantities, and any special requests.
- Product Knowledge:
- Having detailed knowledge of products or services offered to answer customer questions and provide recommendations.
- Operating POS system:
- Efficiently processing transactions using a point-of-sale system, including scanning items, accepting payment methods (cash, credit cards), and providing change.
- Preparing food or drinks (if applicable):
- Depending on the setting, may be responsible for basic food preparation like assembling sandwiches, pouring beverages, or following specific recipe instructions.
- Packaging Items:
- Properly packaging purchased items to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Handling customer inquiries:
- Addressing customer concerns, complaints, or questions regarding products, services, or store policies.
- Maintaining cleanliness:
- Keeping the counter area clean and organized, including wiping spills, restocking shelves, and disposing of trash.
- Visual merchandising:
- Presenting products attractively on the counter to encourage sales.
- Following company policies:
- Adhering to established cash handling procedures, safety guidelines, and customer service standards.
