Under direction of Regional Nurse Manager, provides work direction and guidance to the non-licensed Wellness Center staff, within the scope of their license, and ensures quality nursing practice, patient interaction and treatment and manages costs through strategic and tactical planning and growth.
Must be available for on-call phone conversations and response after wellness center hours as needed.
Administers and maintains occupational health program consistent with company policies and procedures to include federal and state recordkeeping related to OSHA, Workers’ Compensation and Occupational Health programs, etc.
Achieves facility goals for management of worker’s comp costs, recordables, lost and restricted time through case management.
In collaboration with the Regional Nurse Manager, provides support to the wellness center or medical department that is consistent with company policies and standard operating procedures, to include injury/illness assessment, clinic appointments, ordering supplies, etc.
Establishes and monitors systems to improve health of associates and dependents through direct provision of medical care, efficiently and appropriately delivered, i.e. HIP (Health Improvement Program), health and wellness programs and operations, including provider accountabilities, etc.
Manages Wellness Center areas of practice to include scheduled appointments, standard operating procedures, patients per hour, generic samples, budget & finance, etc.
Provide triage, first aid, and treatment for occupational injuries and illnesses.
Serve as lead nurse during assigned shifts.
Oversee documentation accuracy and OSHA compliance.
Ensure clinic readiness, supplies, and emergency preparedness.
Demonstrate strong documentation skills and continued review of medical documentation for completeness and accuracy.
Support escalation decisions for outside medical referrals or emergency care.
Manages Wellness Center KPIs and metrics, i.e. Clinic utilization, standard operating procedures, budget, etc.
Coordinate initial injury reporting and workers’ compensation processes.
Monitor restricted duty assignments and return-to-work compliance.
Communicate medical restrictions clearly with HR and plant leadership.
Track lost-time cases and collaborate on early intervention strategies.
Follow up with employees to support safe recovery and reduce re-injury risk.
Demonstrate regulatory knowledge.
Maintain OSHA 300 logs and related documentation.
Ensure HIPAA-compliant recordkeeping.
Monitor compliance with Medical Surveillance Programs, i.e. Bloodborne Pathogen standards, Hearing conservation programs, Vision, Respiratory protection programs, etc.
Assist with internal and external audits.
Health Surveillance & Screening Programs.
Conduct periodic health screenings.
Perform audiometric testing.
Conduct respirator fit testing and medical clearance screening.
Administer vaccinations per protocol.
Track surveillance metrics and identify injury trends.
Demonstrate effective communication with plant leadership by participating in safety meetings and production leadership meetings.
Analyze injury trends and recommend prevention strategies.
Assist with incident investigations, root cause reviews, data tracking and injury trend analysis.
Supervise LPNs, CMAs or clinic support staff within the scope of their license.
Provide coaching and performance feedback.
Assist in scheduling to ensure clinic coverage.
Promote a culture of accountability, service, and professionalism.
Train new clinic staff on plant-specific protocols.
Must be available for on-call phone conversations and response after wellness center hours as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience
Successful completion of an approved practical nursing program or college program or Associate’s Degree in a related field.
5 - 6 years related work experience (occupational health, ER, urgent care, or industrial setting preferred).
Active, unrestricted, LPN license in state of practice. Current certification in CPR in good standing.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated leadership or charge nurse experience.
Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions.
All healthcare staff must adhere to the company immunization policy; provide proof of training, certification and/or license.
Preferred Education and Experience
Medical office supervisory experience preferred.
Occupational health or industrial nursing experience, or experience in manufacturing or food production environments.
Phlebotomy skills and bilingual a plus.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors
Must be able to see, touch, smell & record findings in writing or electronically.
Manual dexterity for clinical procedures.
Can move light equipment or supplies from one place to another.
Have ability to respond as needed to medical emergencies in all areas of the complex.
Must have ability to move throughout the processing plant & surrounding environments of the off-site facilities, such as feed mills, hatchery, etc.
Majority of work in office or clinic setting, as well as inter-facility & external environmental conditions (e.g. noise levels, changes in temperature, humidity, etc. May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.
May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db. To 110 db.
May be exposed to dust, feathers, and all chemicals used in poultry processing facility.
You must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
