Our advanced facility is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic technology, supported by a team of expert veterinary specialists and compassionate staff. At GCVS, we offer a comprehensive range of specialized services, including emergency and critical care, anesthesia and pain management, avian and exotic animal care, cardiology, dermatology and allergy treatment, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, neurology and neurosurgery, oncology, ophthalmology, sports medicine and rehabilitation, as well as surgery and orthopedics. Position Overview: The Diagnostic Imaging (DI) Veterinary Assistant is under the direct guidance and supervision of the Diagnostic Imaging Supervisor, the radiologists, and the Hospital Administrator. Occupants of this position are required to help improve the quality of the care given to the patients of Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists. This position requires timely management of major responsibilities and flexibility to assist as able within the DI department. Compensation: $17-$19/hr. based on experience Weekend differentials offered Schedule: Full Time Rotating weekends 4x10s Key Responsibilities:
Assisting DI staff, radiologists, and sonographers with patients for imaging studies Assisting in patient's imaging drop-off appointments Transport of patients requiring imaging studies from the requesting department to the imaging and back Assisting in restraining and positioning patients for ultrasound Obtain vitals during ultrasound scans (HR, RR, BP and Temp) Calculate and prepare sedation drugs for patients based on prescribed dosages, ensuring accuracy and safety. Monitor patient care during the sedation process, ensuring all patients receive excellent, high-quality care. Ensure proper vital sign monitoring (heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, etc.) throughout the sedation process. Assess and interpret the effects of sedation drugs on patients, ensuring they are within normal ranges. Have a basic understanding of small animal anatomy Have a basic understanding of small animal radiography positioning, radiation safety and basic understanding of exposure settings Can perform IV injections, IM injections and IV catheter placement Obtaining quality, diagnostic radiographs Data entry including, but not limited to: Imaging requests, invoicing imaging charges, uploading imaging reports into medical record system, sending/uploading imaging to referring clinics, etc. Proper use of the diagnostic imaging equipment including, but not limited to: Start up and shut down of equipment and computers, entering patient information into equipment, safe use and maintenance of equipment Understanding & complying with proper protective equipment (PPE) and Dosimetry Stocking and cleaning in all department common areas Assisting with laundry, washing dishes, sweeping, mopping, etc Disinfecting all equipment after each patient Walk, feed, and assist with treatments for any hospitalized patients as needed Assisting in GCV Telemed clinics with their imaging consults submission Assisting in other departments of GCVS as needed Participating in rotational schedules—working some Saturdays and/or Sundays as needed by Diagnostic Imaging Ability to learn and work with PACs, Outlook, practice management software and/or other hospital management or imaging software Using social perceptiveness to be aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do. Ability to modify approach as appropriate. Knowledge of clinic procedures in support of streamlining clients' experiences with us. Knowledge of patient care standards in support of providing the highest level of medical case management. Knowledge of client communication standards to provide the highest level of customer service.
Qualifications:
High School diploma is required, Associate's degree (A. A.) is preferred; or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education / experience. 1-2 years of veterinary experience Licensed Veterinary Technician not required but preferred. Adapts positively to the ever-changing healthcare environment by supporting technology and process changes. Must possess excellent listening and interpersonal skills and problem-solving methods. Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus!
Must be able to work varying hours as required. The DI service operates between 7:30am and 6:30pm every day of the week.
