Optometry Assistant This is a 13-week contract position. 40 hours per week across clinic hours which are M-F 7:45a-6p and Sat 8a-5p. The Optometry Assistant supports eye care services to patients of all ages. This position includes developing skills as an optometry assistant through on-the-job and self-training modules. Key skills for success in this role include customer service, attention to detail, clear communication, and timely documentation. This is a career ladder position with four levels designed to provide progressively more technical and independent work experiences. Promotion between job levels is based on performance, skill acquisition, required certifications, and the demonstrated ability to successfully handle duties requiring progressively more responsibility. Responsibilities:
Room and screen patients for providers, perform optical and point of care lab testing. Accurately document information in a timely manner. Assist patients with optical orders including benefits verification, frame selection, measurements, and payment collection. Manage inventory including ordering, cleaning, returns, and frame placement. Acquire ocular imaging such as photos, ocular coherence tomography, visual fields, and topography. Enter images into the medical record for provider review. Assist with triage, tracking, and scheduling of referred, recalled, or diabetic patients. Support phone operations by directing/answering patient questions and paperwork. Collaborate with Referral Care Coordinators and providers to facilitate patient referrals. Order and maintain office and medical supplies. Ensure patient confidentiality at all times. Work collaboratively to meet the needs of patients and organizational goals.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure:
High School Diploma or GED. Current National MA certification. Flu vaccine required. One year of medical assistant experience. BLS certification.
