Under the direction of the Surgical Services Clinical Leader, assists with the safety of surgical patients and performs routine and delegated duties according to legal standards and policies of Cheshire Medical Center. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to perform duties based on a working knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life-span. Appropriately interprets the patient's age-specific requirements and adjusts technique as appropriate to achieve the best possible outcome. Performs scrubbing functions during surgical procedures according to prescribed standards. Selects routine supplies and equipment required for surgical procedure. Assists with environmental asepsis. Work within the structure of the Medical Center and department policies, procedures, missions, philosophies and goals. The surgical technologist performs delegated technical functions under the direct supervision of a perioperative registered nurse. Treat each patient, visitor and employee with compassion and courtesy, maintaining excellent customer relations. Demonstrate a positive attitude and an ability to work with others in a cooperative effort to ensure customer satisfaction and Continuous Quality Improvement. Comply with the department and Medical Center safety and infection control policies and procedures, and with relevant regulatory and legal standards. Participate in all meetings, in-service sessions and required self-development programs and activities. May be required to perform other duties of a lesser, equal or greater level of responsibility. Education: High school diploma or equivalent completion of basic surgical technologist education. Experience: Credentials: Med Tech registry required. BLS - Within 3 months of hire and maintained on a biannual basis. Certification is required within six months of hire for new graduates or equivalent experience in an acute surgical setting.
