Supervises the sonography team in an acute or ambulatory department and monitors all daily operations, staffing, performance management, and operational functions of the department. We are looking for a dual tech that knows Echo/Vascular and has competent skills in this area to assist the team as well. Essential Functions • Expertise in sonography and demonstrates competency in sonography procedures pertinent to department. • Supervises (oversees) all daily functions and personnel in a sonography department. • Manages various human resource functions including hiring, work assignments, coaching plans, and disciplinary actions. • Provides team members with in-services, training, education, and orientation. • Assists in representing sonography to management when considering equipment choices, technical issues, and personnel issues. • Works closely with physicians in the performance of sonography exams. • Leads any necessary daily operational problem resolution and assists in decision making. • Assists with budget preparation, improvement, and management activities. • Ensures compliance with Quality Control standards and participates, as needed, in corporate workgroup committees. • Complies with applicable accreditation regulations and monitoring for proper imaging practices. • Responsible for departmental participation in process improvement initiatives and maintains records for The Joint Commission. • Provides instructions and direction that achieve patient cooperation and satisfaction while maintaining awareness of patient age specific needs. • Monitors application of sterile technique and infection control practices. • Applies appropriate standard precautions and personal protective equipment to prevent cross-contamination of contagious diseases. • Sets expectations and holds team members accountable to all Orlando Health policies and protocols. • Serves as a resource for students and faculty members for affiliated imaging programs. • Ensures safety of all customers. • Monitors compliance of licensure, registry and other mandatory education required for team members. • Ensures that all standards of The Joint Commission, any pertinent accreditation bodies, or other applicable regulatory agencies are met or exceeded. • Communicates and interacts closely with the scheduling department, physicians, radiologists and/or cardiologists to ensure optimum patient/staff flow and resolves patient care issues. • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards. • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Responsibilities • Consistently exercises professional judgment and maintains a professional demeanor complimentary to quality care. • Assumes the role of Director or Manager when that person is absent. • Maintains a cooperative work environment and corrects personnel inadequacies on skill, knowledge, or behaviors. • Monitors time entry for accuracy and completeness. • Maintains inventory as needed for department. • Assists with patient care as necessary to ensure quality customer experience by meeting patients' needs and comfort during the study being performed. • Compiles, monitors, and analyzes data for critical success factors, Joint Commission, and budget variance reports. • Interacts and collaborates with other department supervisors and staff to continually improve diagnostic quality and patient care issues. • Develops new techniques and protocols. • Follows established standards of practice for image processing and interpretation. • May be required to assist with contrast administration if pertinent to department. • May be required to assist with intravenous (IV) insertion and removal for the administration of diagnostic contrast medication if pertinent to department.
Qualifications Education/Training • Associate degree required. • Meets American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) guidelines. Licensure/Certification • Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider Certification. • Must maintain one of the following: • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS); or • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS), Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS), Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). Experience • Two (2) years of experience working in sonography. • Knowledge of and able to perform 2-D and 3-D imaging, Doppler imaging, routine, and complex sonography exams which may include general sonography exams, invasive procedures, such as biopsies and aspirations, echocardiography, such as Strain, contrast enhanced studies and TEE, and/or vascular sonography exams, such as venous insufficiency, segmental physiology upper extremity and transcranial imaging. Knowledge of equipment operations and maintenance.
