Job Description:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the company's accounting operations, financial
reporting, and project accounting activities within a construction environment. This role ensures the
accuracy of financial data, assists with month-end close processes, and supports compliance with
accounting standards and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
• Prepare and review monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements
• Support month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting
• Maintain and analyze job cost accounting, project budgets, and cost tracking
• Prepare and monitor work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and revenue recognition reporting
• Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies
• Assist with forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis for construction projects and
operational activities
• Collaborate with project managers and operational teams to review project performance,
contract status, and cost variances
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and company procedures
• Support external audits, tax preparation, and other compliance-related reporting requirements
• Assist with fixed asset accounting, depreciation schedules, and capital expenditure tracking
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and increased operational efficiency
• Mentor or assist junior accounting staff as needed
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 4+ years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry
• Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing and percentage-
of-completion accounting
• Experience preparing WIP schedules and project-based financial reporting
• Knowledge of GAAP and internal control practices
• Experience with ERP or construction accounting software systems
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Effective communication and collaboration skills across accounting and operations teams
• CPA designation or progress toward certification is preferred but not required
