Medication Technician The Medication Technician will serve a vital role in supporting LPN/RN's and clinical staff within a treatment setting. This position includes responsibilities for medication administration, document, and direct client care. This position will ensure safe, compliant, and compassionate support for clients with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Specific Duties And Responsibilities
Medication Administration:
Administer prescribed medications under supervision of LPN/RNs and in accordance with facility protocols and state regulations. Maintain accurate medication records and logs. Monitor clients for side effects or adverse reactions and report concerns promptly.
Documentation & Compliance:
Document all care provided, medication administration, and client interactions in the electronic health record (EHR). Assist with daily shift notes, incident reports, and other required documentation. Ensure compliance with HIPAA, infection control, and safety standards.
Client Support:
Provide direct care and supervision to clients, including assistance with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living). Support therapeutic routines and reinforce clinical goals set by treatment teams. Participate in crisis intervention and de-escalation when necessary.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with LPN/RNs, QPs, and clinical staff to ensure continuity of care. Attend staff meetings, trainings, and contribute to interdisciplinary planning.
Evaluation: The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing and will be conducted by the supervisor and will include the specific duties and responsibilities of the position description, plus employee attitude, and general working behavior. Formal evaluation will normally be performed annually but may be initiated by an employee or supervisor. Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not oversee staff. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must possess at a minimum High School Diploma/GED, CNA certification preferred Experience in behavioral health, substance use, or residential care preferred. Valid driver's license Able to read, write, understand, and follow directions. Clear Healthcare Registry report.
Medication Technician certification or willingness to obtain Active CNA certification in the state of North Carolina preferred
Strong documentation and communication skills Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays Ability to respond quickly in an emergency
Work Environment: Work is performed primarily in the client's living environment and in the community and may involve exposure to cigarette smoke, domestic animals/pets, household pests, uncomfortable heating/cooling, and other issues related to the domestic location in which service is delivered. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk and hear; and taste and smell. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to drive and operate a personal vehicle safely and adhere to all applicable state and traffic laws.
