Provide first aid and nursing care for minor injuries and illnesses, documenting all care. Administer medications per prescribed schedules and maintain accurate medication records. Perform daily sick call and health checks for campers and staff. Manage chronic conditions and provide emotional support, including homesickness. Coordinate off-site medical appointments and ensure timely follow-through on discharge orders. Arrange prescriptions and medical supplies with local pharmacies. Health Administration
Maintain the health center, medical supplies, and confidential medical records. Review camper health histories, bowel charts, and administer PRN medications per protocol. Track seizure activity and EpiPen needs for assigned campers, collaborating with counselors daily. Implement communicable disease protocols and comply with DOH, ACA, Compass, and agency standards. Complete medication incident reports and notify parents/physicians as needed. Fulfill mandated reporter responsibilities and document incidents affecting camper safety. Emergency Response
Respond promptly to medical emergencies and coordinate with emergency services as needed. Follow established emergency protocols to ensure camper and staff safety. Communication & Coordination
Communicate with Camp Leadership and families regarding health concerns or changes in camper status. Collaborate with clinic nurses, kitchen staff, and counselors to ensure proper care and dietary compliance. Prepare medication time lists for Dining Hall and Cabin Binders. Conduct pre-session health screenings with families to confirm health or medication changes. Review weekly schedules, clarify assignments with the Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager, participate in night-call agency's mission. Perform other duties as requested by the Camp Nurse Manager and Camp Assistant Nurse Manager. "Through family and community engagement, Citizens supports people to live the Life they choose."QualificationsNew York State Professional Nursing Certification Current NYS Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license Current CPR/AED certification (must be renewed annually in accordance with DOH regulations). Some experience with ID/DD population preferred. Physical Demands/Work Environment
Ability to move throughout camp property, including uneven terrain and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions, ability to lift, carry, or move up to 25 pounds independently and assist with lifting/transferring campers as needed. Capacity to respond quickly in emergency situations, which may require physical activity (e.g., CPR, first aid). Tolerance for extended standing, walking, or bending during daily operations.
