Job Title Pulmonary Clinic Provider at the newly established Garner VA Medical Center (VAMC) Job Description The Pulmonary Clinic Provider at the newly established Garner VA Medical Center (VAMC) will provide comprehensive outpatient pulmonary care to Veterans with a broad range of respiratory diseases, including asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease (ILD), sarcoidosis, and other pulmonary conditions commonly encountered within the Veteran population. This is primarily an outpatient position with dedicated clinical time in the Garner Pulmonary Clinic, supported by on-site Respiratory Therapy services and a fully equipped Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) Laboratory offering spirometry, lung volumes, diffusing capacity testing, and oxygen titration studies. The Garner Pulmonary Clinic operates under the oversight and clinical integration of the Durham VAMC Pulmonary Section, ensuring alignment with systemwide standards for excellence in pulmonary care. The Durham Pulmonary Section provides a full spectrum of subspecialty pulmonary services, including advanced and interventional pulmonology, a multidisciplinary thoracic oncology program, and a VA-accredited lung cancer screening program. Additional specialized services include clinics focused on ILD, COPD and asthma management, biologic therapy, home-based pulmonary rehabilitation, and pulmonary hypertension in collaboration with Cardiology. This integrated structure ensures Veterans receiving care at Garner have direct access to advanced pulmonary consultation and procedural services throughout the Durham VA network. A primary objective of this position is to help establish and expand pulmonary services at this new outpatient facility. The Garner campus includes urgent care, laboratory services, radiology with CT imaging capability, a PFT laboratory, and oxygen titration services, allowing for comprehensive outpatient pulmonary evaluation and management. Many patients may transition their pulmonary care from the Durham VAMC to Garner in response to increasing geographic demand and improved local access to specialty services. However, depending on clinical experience and individual interest, future opportunities may exist to participate in inpatient pulmonary or critical care activities at the Durham VAMC, including inpatient pulmonary consultation or Medical ICU service coverage. Clinical Duties The incumbent is expected to remain privileged and practicing in their specialty field. The exact privileges and procedures for a particular provider will be approved by the Professional Standards Board. All physicians must meet the following qualifications:
