DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION CSPD is instrumental to patient care and provides cleaning, reprocessing & sterilization support services to Surgical Services and UW Medicine customers. We are open 24/7. We collect, reprocess & stock an average of 6,500 surgical trays and some 6,500 items a week. Our team focuses on compliance with all necessary regulatory requirements and quality assurances in order to provide the highest quality surgical Instruments. POSITION HIGHLIGHTS Education
Act as a resource to the Central Processing staff.
Provides adequate training and orientation for present staff and new employees.
Assigns and direct workflow using time allowed, maximizing output.
Assist with developing and implementing comprehensive CSPD training programs in compliance with accreditation standards and organizational policies
Deliver structured education and hands-on training for new and existing sterile processing staff, improving competency and consistency
Integrate best practices and industry guidelines into all educational content
Conduct competency-based assessments in alignment with national sterile processing standards
Lead
Lead quality improvement initiatives using training data, audits, and performance metrics
Promote best practices in infection prevention, sterilization, and high-level disinfection
Lead decontamination, sterilization, and packing of surgical equipment
Identify and tag damaged equipment
Assemble special emergency trays (examples: Crash Laparotromy Set, Peripheral Vascular Set, Chest Set).
Assemble, set up, test and document the set up and testing of specialized equipment (example: drills and flexible scopes).
Load autoclave carts and process instruments, equipment and supplies through the appropriate sterilization cycle.
Verify correct sterilization cycles by checking and signing autoclave printouts and sterilizer load cards.
Perform and document sterilizer function tests using vacuum, chemical and biological indicators; take appropriate action for abnormal results.
Inventory and store sterile instruments, equipment and supplies; restock or re-supply as necessary to maintain appropriate par levels.
REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience performing the work of a Hospital Central Services Technician II.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration
