Staff Physician (MHRRTP) - Mental Health Rehabilitation Treatment Program This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 30, 2026 or until all positions are filled. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be 4 June 2026, with subsequent cut-off dates every two weeks. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled. Clinical Responsibilities (75%-85% of time)
Provides a full range of services including assessment and using the most appropriate techniques in providing quality care in their subspeciality. Perform appropriate evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of patients. Provide a full range of therapeutic interventions in units/programs in the Hampton VA Health Care System to which they are assigned and has clinical privileges to practice including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management. Recognizes the need for the appropriate level of care including routine, urgent and emergent status and recognizes the need to refer the patents for inpatient care. Will provide support and clinical oversight to their program. Will work with interdisciplinary team. Participates effectively in team meeting and treatment planning conferences and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members in a manner that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care. Performs appropriate evaluation and management of patients to include ordering of diagnostic tests and consultations and discriminates between normal and abnormal findings and makes appropriate treatment decisions. Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions to units/programs to which assigned and has clinical privileges to practice including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management. Documentation of care in the medical record in keeping with the bylaws of the Medical Center. Provides supervisory oversight for residents, fellows, medical students, PA students as assigned. Provides supervisory oversight of the clinical care of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants as appropriate. Provides medical consultations and cross coverage in the Domiciliary, inpatient unit, homeless programs and other mental health clinics as assigned. Ensures that the practice of medicine is consistent with Joint Commission, CARF, VA policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines, VISN standards, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation, mandatory continuing education, and HIPPA policies. Other related duties as assigned by the Chief of Mental Health within clinical privileges to meet the needs of the organization.
