Plan, develop, and implement appropriate instructional strategies, including alternative delivery strategies when appropriate. Assist and advise students who have problems with assignments, tests, grades, course content, career concerns, and other academic matters. Research, develop, and administer skills assessments before, during and after courses and services with an emphasis on evaluating student performance in courses taught by the instructor. Participate in instructional and curriculum articulation activities with other programs and other divisions of instruction. Comply with college policies and directions regarding student testing record keeping, advanced standing, providing grades on a timely basis, maintaining office hours for student assistance and counseling, etc. Work closely with the College's Business and Industry Services division to support the training needs of business partners and/or clients. Maintain competencies as an instructor as aligned with the Faculty Quality Assurance System. Comply with all aspects of Board policies, work rules, and the appropriate collective bargaining agreement. Attend division, department and advisory committee meetings. Develop and implement strategies aimed at the retention of students of color, female students, English Language Learners (ELL), and students with disabilities. Participate in appropriate staff development activities such as diversity awareness, technology training, etc. Demonstrate a commitment to the college's mission, vision and values.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
Knowledge of current educational methods and strategies, including learner-centered instruction, assessment, evaluation and collaborative techniques and strategies that address closing the gap in student access and achievement across race, gender and disability. Project management work experience. Skill in the use of educational technology and alternative delivery methods. Knowledge and ability to infuse multicultural perspectives into course content and delivery. Skill in communications and human relations with populations having diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds, as well as individuals with disabilities. Skill in oral and written communications. Ability to effectively interact with business and industry to establish partnerships and address needs. Willingness to travel to company locations for collaborative meetings and/or training.
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in any field. Licensed as a CVT or DVM. Two (2) years or 4,000 hours of work experience with live animals with a variety of species.
Madison College utilizes pool postings for all Part-time Instructor positions. This posting is a pool position to collect applications for potential part-time instruction positions. Part-time Instructors are hired on a per course basis each semester, and teaching one semester does not guarantee assignment for the following semester. The teaching hours for a part-time instructor vary and can include day, evening, and weekend classes.
