District Registered Nurse (RN) Principal Director of Special Education & Health Services
Position Summary The Health Assistant supports the health and wellness needs of students and the school community under the supervision of the District Registered Nurse, Site Administrator, and Director of Special Education & Health Services. Responsibilities include medication administration, first aid, health record maintenance, immunization compliance, health screenings, and support for school health services while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and district policies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Health Services
Complete required orientation and training, including:
Medical terminology Medication administration Common health-related conditions Other district-required health topics
Provide first aid and CPR as needed in accordance with training, district policies, and established procedures. Measure and record:
Vital signs Height and weight State-mandated health screening data
Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant health office environment. Maintain, inventory, and order health office equipment and supplies through the Lead Nurse. Compile, maintain, and update student health records. Ensure compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and district confidentiality requirements. Maintain accurate and confidential health records using established storage and retrieval systems. Assist with student transportation using a wheelchair when appropriate. Demonstrate knowledge of:
Medical terminology Childhood growth and development Common student health conditions
Identify and document student health concerns and refer students to appropriate resources as needed. Communicate relevant medical information to appropriate school personnel, parents/guardians, and the school nurse while maintaining confidentiality. Administer medications according to district policies and established procedures. Follow OSHA standards regarding bloodborne pathogens and all applicable federal and state regulations. Assist with health education activities, including:
Duplicating and distributing materials Creating displays and bulletin boards Supporting health awareness initiatives
Assist the school nurse as requested and follow all delegation procedures and policies. Perform additional health-related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education, Site Administrator, Superintendent, or immediate supervisor.

Follow district dress code requirements and maintain a professional appearance. Wear district-issued identification at all times.
Administrative Support
Answer telephones, provide information, and direct calls appropriately. Prepare reports and documentation as requested. Assist with clerical duties as directed by the school principal when health clinic operations permit. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required
High School Diploma or equivalent Current First Aid and CPR certification Ability to pass employment verification and background checks
Preferred
Degree, certification, or training in a health-related field, such as:
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
Physical Requirements The employee may be required to:
Sit and stand for extended periods Walk throughout the school campus Lift and carry up to 50 pounds Reach, bend, squat, kneel, and climb Move light furniture and equipment as needed
Safety and Compliance Complete annual district-required training, including but not limited to:
Child Abuse Awareness Substance Abuse Awareness Bloodborne Pathogens Standard Training Other health and safety trainings as required
Equipment and Materials Must be able to operate or learn to operate:
Office equipment Health office equipment Multimedia equipment Current instructional and communication technology
Work Environment
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Exposure to varying levels of noise, temperature, and air quality. Frequent interruptions should be expected. Flexibility, patience, and adaptability are essential. Must be self-motivated and able to work with limited direct supervision. Occasional evening or after-hours work may be required.
