Basic Function: The activities director shall provide administrative direction and oversight for all athletic and activity programs in the district. The director is responsible for sustaining a culture of sportsmanship, professionalism and respect at all levels. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: coordinating of athletic schedules and contests, securing officials and communicating with opposing schools, supervising athletic events, hiring and evaluating coaches, overseeing equipment and facility usage, managing the athletic program within a budget, promoting strong communication with students, parents, and coaches. Compensation:
Salary: $95,000 - $100,000 based on qualifications and experience 260-day contract beginning on July 1, 2026 Excellent benefits package Essential Functions:
Organize and administer the overall program of extracurricular athletics, both intramural and interscholastic, for the district. Provide leadership in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches and staff members. Evaluate coaches in terms of their performance, conduct, handling of athletes, and care of equipment and facilities. Foster good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic and activities programs. Provide public relations and media releases regularly. Assume responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic and activities events. Schedule all varsity, junior varsity, and junior high sports contests. Responsible for getting schedules to IHSAA, IGHSAU, coaches, and opponents. Hire officials, team physicians, trainers, and policemen as required, and assume general responsibility for the proper supervision of home events. Secure contracts with officials for all home athletic events. Arrange transportation for athletic contest participants. Verify each athlete's eligibility according to established physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport. Make sure all athletes have properly signed physical forms on file. Keep an eligibility list and keep coaches informed of the same. Prepare and administer the athletic program budget. Supervise all ticket sales and fundraising events of the athletic program and assume responsibility for proper handling of funds. Arrange all details of the visiting team's needs, gymnasium services, and field assistance, as appropriate. Arrange field and gym practice schedules and for non-school use of playing fields and facilities. Keep records of the results of all junior and senior high school athletic contests, and maintain a record file of all award winners, stating the date and type of award, including athletic scholarships. Complete all state entry forms for sports in which the school participates. Emphasize to coaches and athletes safety precautions and ensure that all athletic activities are properly supervised by coaches. Develop and place into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities. Make sure coaches and athletes are aware of rules, regulations, and policies of the district. Possess knowledge of rules and regulations of the various sports and keep abreast of changes. Inform coaches of changes in conference and state rules, regulations, policies, etc. Ensure that all state mandates regarding athletics are being followed by the district. Complete (or have coaches complete) all-conference and state forms, required officials' evaluations, and other required correspondence. Oversee coaches' issuance of and collection of school equipment, and uniforms, and care and maintenance of same. Keep an inventory (through coaches) of all athletic equipment, uniforms, and supplies. Order equipment needed for all sports within the athletic budget. Recommend to the administration improvements in facilities, equipment, etc. Discipline athletes when problems are beyond the coaches' normal range of responsibility. Attend conference, state, and national Athletic Director meetings and conferences. Assist in supervising athletic and activities events. Assist coaches in collecting fees/charges from students. Assist coaches in the awarding of letters to athletes. Provide the principal and/or superintendent (for file purposes) any state and conference correspondence with which they should be knowledgeable. Recommend to the administration changes in athletic policies. Participate in Management Team meetings and activities. Maintain high integrity and confidentiality in the school operation. Be knowledgeable of and abide by all school board policies, procedures, and other applicable laws. Cooperate with and work in a courteous manner with co-workers and other personnel. Dress appropriately for the position and work required. Demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, students, and job and communicate the same to the community. Accept constructive criticism and suggestions and seek to improve each performance responsibility. Demonstrate organization and professionalism in fulfilling the responsibilities of the job. Greet all students, faculty, staff, and visitors courteously. Attend work on a prompt and regular basis. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions. Employee must occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, and copiers.
