*What are we looking for?*
Koandah is seeking a creative, skilled, problem-solving mid- to senior-level Field Network Engineer to join a growing team in a Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) program. Responsibilities include designing, deploying, and maintaining the tactical and enterprise networks that support C-UAS operations, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless and radio links, and field communications. The role also includes hands-on installation, configuration, and on-site troubleshooting at deployment locations. This position is part of a solutions development team that works with industry to identify improved C-UAS solutions. This role combines on-site engineering work with regular travel to deployment locations.
The position is full time in Alexandria, VA with frequent travel to Summit Point, West Virginia and other domestic and international locations.
In this position, you will:
* Design, build, configure, and reliably operate field and enterprise networks, including routers, switches, firewalls, and the servers and virtualization that support them
* Work cross-functionally to solve problems and implement changes
* Install, cable, upgrade, and rack network and computer equipment in the field and at fixed sites, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation and monitoring processes
* Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing the impact of issues
* Maintain technical expertise in all network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing areas, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
* Provide detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques, and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements
* Analyze computer and network architectures to optimize performance, security, and operational testing
* Provide documentation and technical specifications to C-UAS staff to plan and implement upgrades to C-UAS
* Perform or delegate regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures
* Provide on-site and remote field support, coordinating with vendors and teammates to make sure C-UAS network, communications, and related equipment problems are resolved promptly with limited disruptions to operations
* Develop and maintain a software configuration tracker that considers new releases, operating systems, application updates, and application program interfaces
* Represent the C-UAS program in intra-department meetings, working groups, and industry forums related to network architecture, communications, and cyber security
* Ensure the C-UAS program complies with the client’s standards and practices regarding network engineering and operations
*Required Education, Experience, and Skills*
* Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a closely related field. Additional years of experience mixed with professional certifications may be considered in lieu of a degree
* Applicants selected must be US citizens eligible for a Top Secret clearance
* 3-5 years of network engineering, network administration, or related infrastructure experience
* 1-3 years of experience in a network engineering or field engineering role
* Experience with Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), and Virtual Private Network (VPN)
* Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS)
* Basic understanding of one or more scripting languages (BASH/PYTHON preferred)
* Understanding of general cyber-related technical problems and finding computer system security solutions for these problems or risks
* Proven experience independently researching and presenting solutions for complicated problems
* Working knowledge of user interfaces, web-based user interfaces, or equivalent
* A proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategies and plans
* Strong knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols
*Preference given to candidates with the following:*
* Active Top Secret clearance (Active Secret clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret also considered)
* Cisco CCNA or CCNP (or equivalent) networking certification
* CompTIA Server+ Certification
* CompTIA Security+ Certification or equivalent security certification
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
*OTHER DETAILS*
* The main work location is Alexandria, VA, with frequent travel to nearby Summit Point, West Virginia. The position requires other domestic and international travel, including potential danger and hardship locations. ~25% travel expected.
* Physical requirements include walking, climbing, crawling through small spaces, and standing or sitting for long periods.
* Must meet medical clearance requirements. The position requires adherence to approved vaccination protocols as determined by location.
