Payroll Manager Overview As we grow, a payroll manager is needed to manage company finances and pay employees in a timely manner. Lee's Air, Plumbing & Heating's payroll manager ensures precision, adherence, and efficiency. Data entry, auditing, reporting, and tax filing are all part of your payroll lifecycle, along with system improvements to accommodate our growing staff. The ideal applicant will have tactical payroll handling abilities, strategic problem‑solving abilities, and experience working across departments. You will ensure that all of our locations, including California, adhere to pay and hour regulations and connect human data with financial data by collaborating with HR and Finance.
Responsibilities
Manage payroll for hourly and salaried workers across multiple divisions.
Ensure all employees’ salaries, overtime, bonuses, commissions, and deductions are processed accurately and on time.
Update employee data, such as time, tax, and benefit records to ensure accurate payroll.
Keep track of W-2s, 1099s, payroll taxes, and other documents required by regulators.
Uphold and update payroll regulations at federal, state, and local levels, especially California labor laws.
Maintain accurate payroll and financial records, and send monthly and annual reports.
Serve as the main payroll contact, handling employee concerns strategically and tactfully.
Examine the payroll system and suggest modifications.
Send payroll records and reports to compliance analysts and auditors.
Help with payroll processing and advise participants as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required, ideally in accounting, business, finance, or a similar discipline.
Five years of payroll experience, including two years in a leadership role.
Proficiency with ADP payroll, Paylocity, QuickBooks, and timekeeping systems.
Understanding of all California labor laws, including payroll taxes, wages, and hours.
Ability to juggle multiple tasks, maintain organization, and exercise attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal skills, communication, honesty, and commitment to privacy.
Knowledgeable about Excel and other tools for data analysis and reporting.
It makes sense to become certified as a CPP.
