About the Role:
As a Registered Nurse at Rochester Gastroenterology Associates (RGA), you will play a critical role in delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients with gastrointestinal conditions. Your primary focus will be to provide direct patient care, ensuring that each individual receives personalized and compassionate treatment throughout their healthcare journey. You will collaborate closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to implement care plans, monitor patient progress, and educate patients and their families about their conditions and treatments. This role demands a strong commitment to patient advocacy, ensuring that patients' needs and concerns are addressed promptly and effectively. Ultimately, your contributions will enhance patient outcomes and support the overall mission of RGA to provide exceptional gastroenterology care.This position will be for our Canal landing location.
Basic Function
Collaborates with physicians and the Nurse Manager to provide high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing endoscopic procedures. Responsible for patient assessment, procedural assistance, recovery care, patient education, and maintaining a safe and efficient clinical environment.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare equipment, supplies, and medications for scheduled procedures each day.
  • Ensure procedure rooms are appropriately stocked and all equipment is functioning properly prior to procedures.
  • Perform comprehensive pre-procedure patient assessments including current medications, baseline vital signs, allergies, medical and surgical history, and verification of compliance with procedure preparation instructions.
  • Establish IV access for administration of conscious sedation, antibiotics, IV fluids, and additional medications as needed during or after procedures.
  • Administer conscious sedation medications and continuously monitor patients for adverse reactions, providing rapid intervention when necessary.
  • Collaborate with providers during procedures and assist with collection and handling of pathology specimens.
  • Provide complete verbal handoff reports to recovery room nursing staff.
  • Deliver post-procedure monitoring and nursing care appropriate to the procedure performed.
  • Provide discharge instructions and educational materials to patients and family members.
  • Assess and document patients' return to a safe physiological baseline prior to discharge.
  • Assist with cleaning and turnover of procedure rooms to maintain procedural flow and scheduling efficiency.
  • Prepare pathology specimens for courier pickup and ensure accurate labeling and documentation.
  • Assist with post-procedure follow-up phone calls and next-day appointment confirmation calls.
  • Maintain patient and procedure logs as required.
  • Maintain daily narcotic inventory and documentation logs in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Review daily procedure schedules in Athena and assist medical office staff with patient selection criteria and chart review.
  • Utilize Provation for accurate pre-, intra-, and post-procedure documentation.

Education and Training
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred

Experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Registered Nurse experience required
  • Endoscopy or procedural nursing experience preferred

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting required.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies up to 25 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate medical equipment, start IVs, administer medications, and perform patient care activities.
  • Visual acuity required for patient assessment, monitoring equipment, medication preparation, and documentation.
  • Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Frequent use of computers, keyboards, telephones, and other office and medical equipment.
  • Ability to assist with patient positioning and transport as needed.
  • Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, infectious diseases, chemicals, cleaning agents, and other potential hazards associated with a clinical environment.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including masks, gloves, gowns, and eye protection.
  • Ability to maintain concentration and multitask in a fast-paced procedural setting
