The QA Engineer ensures the quality and reliability of FleetCheck’s software by working independently across manual and automated testing. The role builds on core QA skills to take ownership of test strategy, begin developing the automated test suite, and actively shape QA processes within the Scrum team.
*Key Responsibilities*
*Automation & Technical Testing*
* Write and maintain automated tests using Playwright and TypeScript, building coverage across UI, API, and data validation scenarios.
* Apply test framework best practices, including the page object model pattern, to produce maintainable and well-structured automation scripts.
* Understand how automated tests are triggered within CI/CD pipelines, and be able to run and interpret pipeline results.
*Manual Testing*
* Design, develop, and execute manual test cases for web and mobile applications, including functional, regression, and exploratory testing.
* Validate UI/UX, data integrity, and API functionality across multiple environments.
* Independently design test strategies for features and epics, identifying risk areas and agreeing scope with the product and development teams before testing begins.
* Document defects and track resolution using Jira, ensuring all tickets are complete and actionable without further clarification.
*Process & Documentation*
* Maintain documentation for the automated test suite, including setup guides, folder structure, naming conventions, and instructions for running tests, so that others can contribute without assistance.
* Track and contribute to automation coverage metrics.
*Collaboration & Communication*
* Collaborate with all members of the Scrum development team to implement solutions and quality improvements to the FleetCheck software.
* Proactively surface quality risks during sprint refinement and planning, not just after defects are found.
* Communicate QA status and coverage gaps clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Collaborate in Scrum ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, refinement, and retrospectives.
*Leadership & Ownership*
* Actively promote the adoption of automated testing within the Scrum team, explaining its value and contributing to a culture of quality.
* Contribute testing estimates and automation feasibility input during sprint refinement.
* Identify QA tooling or process gaps and drive proposals to address them.
* Support less-experienced QA colleagues with test case reviews and process questions.
*General Accountabilities*
* Act in a courteous, professional, and ethical manner in all interactions with customers, suppliers, and colleagues.
* Advise line manager on matters relating to workload, work progress, and quality risks.
* Contribute positively to improvement initiatives.
* Comply with FleetCheck’s values, service levels, policies, and legislative requirements.
* Be flexible, operate as a member of the Scrum team, and contribute to other activities when required.
*Skills & Experience*
* Proven experience in software quality assurance with a solid foundation in manual testing across web applications.
* Practical experience writing automated tests using Playwright and TypeScript, or a strong willingness to develop this skill.
* Solid understanding of software testing principles including functional, regression, exploratory, and API testing.
* Awareness of test framework architecture principles and an interest in developing this further.
* Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and how automated tests fit into build and deployment processes.
* Good documentation skills, with the ability to produce clear test strategies and process guides.
* Experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery teams.
* Clear communicator, able to discuss quality risks and testing status with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
