Job Summary
As a Phlebotomist at NARMC, you will perform the critical role of collecting blood and other specimens, preparing them for laboratory analysis, and ensuring accurate documentation. You will support lab operations while maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient environment, contributing directly to patient care and the hospital's quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect blood specimens and perform pre-analytical processing for all incoming samples.
- Demonstrate competent phlebotomy techniques across all age levels, including pediatrics to adult patients.
- Ensure timely and accurate labeling, filing, and charting of patient specimens and results.
- Process send-out tests and distribute final laboratory reports.
- Accurately use Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Laboratory Information System (LIS) for ordering, admitting, accessing, and reporting patient results.
- Maintain inventory and supplies for phlebotomy areas.
- Keep collection areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
- Respond efficiently to STAT and time-sensitive draws.
- Adhere to all NARMC Laboratory and HR directives, regulatory requirements, and proficiency testing protocols.
- Communicate effectively within the chain of authority and escalate concerns or complaints as needed.
- Engage in lab-related activities during downtime to support team efficiency.
Job Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or GED (all levels)
- Level 3: Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy program
- BLS certification
- Proficiency in computer use, medical terminology, and electronic record systems
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
- Skilled in venipuncture, finger sticks, and general phlebotomy techniques
- Critical thinking and team collaboration skills
Preferred:
- Level 1: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Licensed EMT
- Experience with hospital EMR and LIS systems
Experience:
- Level 1: On-the-job training
- Level 2: Minimum 1 year of phlebotomy experience or certification
- Level 3: Completion of accredited Phlebotomy program with 1+ year experience
