The Assyrian Telephone Interpreter handles calls on demand, bridging conversations between Assyrian and English speakers across domains such as healthcare, government, insurance, finance, utilities, travel & hospitality, general business, law enforcement, court, and 911. The interpreter processes information quickly, concisely, recognizes cultural differences, remains professional, courteous, uses appropriate terminology, and understands common industry practices. Sessions may be simple or complex, technical or non‑technical. The position is remote, requiring a quiet, secure home office environment. Essential Job Functions
Respond promptly to interpreting sessions and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner. Render concepts and meanings accurately according to established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions. Speak clearly in both languages, using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions. Maintain a professional demeanor throughout all sessions. Remain calm during sessions, even if a speaker is incoherent or upset, especially during emergencies such as 911 calls. Maintain punctuality and availability during work hours. Follow client instructions and protocol to meet LEP expectations, avoiding interaction without client permission. Understand protocol and terminology for various industries including medical, insurance, finance, and law. Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and work in a diverse environment. Handle highly emotional and/or stressful calls, sometimes staying on a call without breaks, maintaining required company standards. Qualifications
Fluency in Assyrian and English, with knowledge of cultural dynamics. Ability to assess regional and accent variations for effective communication. Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking skills for high accuracy. Concentration, neutrality, and objectivity in sensitive subjects such as end‑of‑life conversations, pregnancy termination, vaccinations, and discussions of sexual orientation or gender expression. Education or work experience in language‑related fields such as teaching, assessment, translation, or interpretation is preferred. Adaptability to LanguageLine technology enhancements. Minimum age 18 years. Legally authorized to work in the United States, with work authorization that does not require future visa sponsorship. High school diploma or equivalent. Current employment by a client of LanguageLine or an affiliated business may disqualify candidates. Reading and writing proficiency in the requested languages is highly preferred. Acceptance of post‑offer background checks, pre‑employment background checks, and/or drug screens based on location. Technical Requirements
Dedicated personal device for business purposes. Operating System:
Desktop / laptop – Windows, macOS, or ChromeOS. Tablets – iPadOS or Android. Smartphones – iOS or Android.
Restricted brands:
Kaspersky products. Huawei hardware.
High‑speed internet connection: download ≥5 Mbps, upload ≥3 Mbps, ping ≤300 ms, jitter ≤30 ms. Quiet workspace free from background noise or distraction. Physical Requirements
Operate keyboard and mouse, remaining seated in front of a computer for the majority of the day. Operate company software and systems to perform all job aspects. Sufficient manual dexterity to type or write. Ability to lift up to 26 lbs. May be exposed to moderate noise levels (computer, audio, telephone). Application Timeline
