Your Role
The Accounting Manager position plays a vital role in managing a core group of complex clients and accounting staff who support those accounts. This leadership position involves mentoring and developing team members, improving accounting processes, closing client files, leading client meetings, and ensuring smooth communication between teams and clients. The Accounting Manager provides oversight of team member work, facilitates cross‑training, and manages backups to ensure consistency and continuity. The Accounting Manager will also be a key figure in staff development and client satisfaction. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Client Account Leadership:
Lead multiple accounts supported by a team of staff. Ensure all staff assigned to account are supported and work is monitored for timeliness and quality. Work closely with the Sr. Controller to assess the client’s accounting and staffing needs. Perform month‑end accrual accounting entries, close the books, and attend client meetings as necessary. Team Leadership & Mentoring:
Lead and mentor the accounting team for assigned clients, motivating them to provide exceptional service. Offer timely coaching and conduct performance reviews to help staff succeed and grow professionally. Cultivate a culture of continuous learning and development, helping team members build skills and grow within their roles. Communicate real‑time, constructive feedback to staff in a professional manner. File Closures & Training:
Complete full file closures for staff who have not been trained on the closing process. Determine when staff are ready to learn the closing process and provide closing training, mentoring and pre‑close support. Include account transitioning out of implementation to facilitate a smooth transition and support both Controller and Accountant. Cross‑Training & Backup Management:
Oversee cross‑training efforts within the team to ensure proper backups are in place for each client account. Quality Assurance:
Oversee and ensure the quality of all files handled by team members. Process and Technology Implementation:
Participate in the implementation of new processes or technologies. 1099 Reviews:
Assist with 1099 prelim and final reviews, when needed. Other Duties as Assigned:
Perform additional responsibilities or tasks as required by management or as needed to support team and client needs. Essential Skills & Experience
5 years of relevant accounting experience in the $5M to $25M space and one year within a client services environment or a similar field. Ability to coach employees and provide constructive, timely feedback. Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and tax regulations. Exhibits emotional intelligence when managing others and clients; ability to acclimate to multiple personalities and management styles. Strong analytical and project management skills. Demonstrated experience with financial systems and data query tools. Self‑starter, displaying confidence in one’s ability and able to work independently, with minimal direction. Thrives in a fast‑paced, multi‑client dynamic environment. Demonstrated ability to keep organized and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Flexible and quickly adapts to a growing company atmosphere. Strong emphasis on attention to detail and accuracy. Friendly, outgoing personality with a positive attitude and strong customer service skills who enjoys meeting and interacting with clients and staff. Displays excellent communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills. Sound judgment and decision‑making skills. Must enjoy training others and be able to display patience when doing so. High degree of computer literacy, including extensive knowledge in Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook and Excel. Enjoys working in a telecommuting environment, including use of Zoom meetings. Proven ability to contribute effectively to organizational and team objectives through strong teamwork skills. Minimum Education & Training Required
Associate’s degree in accounting or American Institute for Professional Bookkeepers Certification (AIPB) preferred, or equivalent industry experience. Proficient with various accounting software, such as QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, TPI, and Sage Intacct. If not proficient, must have willingness to put in time to learn. Experience with third‑party applications preferred, such as Bill.com, Tallie, SaasAnt, Team Work and budgeting & forecasting applications. If not proficient, must have willingness to put in time to learn. Ongoing desire to expand knowledge of new technology and applications. Benefits
