POSITION OVERVIEW The Content Manager will translate complex research and data into compelling, clear, and accessible written content. This role supports the development of digital content, research reports, policy briefs, and other external communications. This role will also serve as a ghostwriter for the Executive Director on thought leadership and strategic messaging. In addition to content generation, the content manager will play an integral role in ensuring that our website content is properly featured, catalogued, and maintained. This is a contract position with the potential to convert to full-time employment following the initial contract period, depending on performance and organizational needs. The position is fully remote.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Write, edit, and produce high-quality content including research reports, issue briefs, executive summaries, website articles, blog posts, and educational explainers.
Draft press releases, talking points, newsletters, and external updates.
Ghostwrite commentary, op-eds, and presentations for leadership.
Translate complex pension funding concepts and financial data into clear narratives tailored to varied audiences.
Ensure digital content is crafted with SEO & GEO at the forefront.
Collaborate with research and data staff to ensure accuracy and clarity.
Manage editorial workflows including drafting, revisions, and fact-checking.
Maintain consistent voice, tone, and message alignment across content channels.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 3 years of experience in journalism, policy communications, editorial writing, financial reporting, or similar fields.
Comfort working with data and translating quantitative findings into plain language.
Ability to write for audiences with varying levels of technical knowledge.
Proven track record producing narrative-driven writing based on research or data.
Experience writing for SEO and an understanding of how strategies should evolve in the generative AI-era.
Strong editorial and proofreading skills.
Experience with CMS platforms and data visualization tools.
Familiarity with public retirement systems, state and local fiscal policy, labor economics, or public finance.
Experience ghostwriting or drafting content on behalf of leadership.

Comfortable working independently in a remote setting.
COMPENSATION $5,800 - $6,500/month

We exist to support public sector workers in understanding how their retirement systems can be improved, and to help state and local governments find ways to both fix threats to municipal finance stability and ensure the retirement security of all public servants.
